We are currently considering buying a DVC contract at Animal Kingdom. My question is, how often are people UNABLE to rent their points at this resort? We are considering a contract in which we would rent 100 points per year.

If you can be flexible about the number of points available, you are unliekly to lose many. It's always hard to get an exact amount without banking/borrowing to make the booking, just as it is as an owner.

I just used a service to rent and it only took a week to get a rental. I did need to use 11 extra,,,I had listed 100, but got a request to book for 111 and I chose to take it,

You can make more per point doing it on your own, but I like the ease of using the service, not having to worry about contracts, etc.

But just be aware that DVC could come up with a way to eliminate all the brokers who rent out your points. Then you would need to rent them yourself.

I think the expense and effort required make that unlikely, honestly. It's one of those possibilities that are in the tails of the normal curve of all the stuff that could happen.

In the past ten years - if you plan ahead to rent (eleven months from when your points expire) and are not renting last minute and are flexible in the number of points you rent - its been easy. Trying to rent exactly the 32 points that will expire in two months isn't a winning rental strategy.

A few people were unsuccessful renting points during the recession - the supply of points on the market went up, the demand for Disney vacations went down. Disney was discounting their own offerings, which made point rental less attractive. It was generally the less popular resorts for booking where people had issues - SSR and yes, VAKL. They are large resorts with points always available. But even then, if you priced your points below market, and had enough lead time for people to book, someone can always afford a bargain.

That is very doubtful. DVC Members are still the ones making the reservations using their own DVC Points. The brokers are NOT making the reservations - only providing the potential renters to DVC Members willing to pay for that service.

DVC did put in a barrier early on when the brokers were being added to memberships as 'Associates' with the ability to make reservations. DVC then placed a limit on the number of memberships on which any entity could be an 'Associate'.

After that, the brokers moved to the current business model where potential renters contact the broker with their requests, pay a deposit in some cases, and then the broker offers the reservations to be made by DVC Members who have enrolled in their service - and then the DVC Members make the reservation in the renter's name.

Since DVC Members are expressly allowed to use their points to make reservations for others and then rent those reservations I would expect it would be difficult for DVD to revoke that component of every contract sold to date (especially when Disney itself rents DVC reservations to others).

I had an excess of points and decided to rent last week...I had to go over by 4 points to secure one reservation and be done within hours. Last year, we had way too many points from a purchase and were able to rent out several hundred points . I never had to wait more than a day or two for the broker to call. As OP's have mentioned you have to think through your potential usage way ahead of time, preferably a year to get the rental out at 11 months. I'm always thinking 2-3 years out with my UY and potential for banking. With planning you shouldn't have a problem.

I used David's to rent a AKL reservation, took about 3 days to get someone, at 11 months you get $14.5 per point, with 70% now and 30% on check in.
best advice is to tell them you only want to make one booking to avoid hassle of multiple renters
I said about 160, but ended up being 176 which was fine.

I also just added them the DDP which was Ok as I used credit card details given to me by David's.
been smooth so far, they aren't going til October though

David's list AKL as a priority resort that they have high demand for.
