Next summer, looking to do a large family trip...we own 125 points, but would need likely double that to accomplish what we want to do. We dont want to borrow/bank, so is it possible for me to rent the extra points needed and book as one reservation or would it have to be 2 separate reservations with different check-ins and all of that?

Why not look into
so is it possible for me to rent the extra points
I am not sure of the answer to this, but would imagine that it could be noted on the reservations with a call to MS.

Why not look into a transfer of points? This way you can book and have ownership over the entire reservation. There are a few downfalls to this to consider.
1. In order to use the transfer points you would need to call to book the reservation.
2. The points you receive retain the UY and home resort booking window, so if you are looking to book your home resort at 11 months I would look for a transfer of points from your home resort. If you are planning on booking at the 7 month window then it wouldn't matter which resort you receive points from.
3. You just need to make sure you are receiving point for the correct UY to be used for your trip.
4. If booking with transferred points for a high demand time frame (Oct-Jan) then using transferred points is a bit riskier because you do need to call at 9am to book, when everyone else is able to get online at 8am. You could lose out on your desired reservation.

They would be two separate reservations. You can call MS and ask that they are noted as continuing reservations but they can’t be combined.

Just a thought, but why not borrow points for the trip next summer to avoid all that of that and then rent points for yourself the following year?

There are 3 ways of doing this:

1. You'd need to get a transfer of points from another member. If they matched your use year, you'd be able to use those as if they were your own. If they don't match your use year, you'd have to have member services book your reservation instead of doing it yourself online. This leaves you in complete control of the reservation.

2. You'd have another member book you a trip that picks up from the end of your trip, by renting the member's points. You'd then contact member services and have them link the two reservations. This still leaves you not in control of the last half of the reservation.

3. Borrow the points from the next year. This is the easiest solution, and leaves you in complete control of the reservation. If you find you want to go the following year, you could continue borrowing forward, or you could rent from another member at that time.

If the rest of the family isn't your regular in the house family, but rather grown up siblings with families, etc, why not just have them rent their own points and get their own reservation? That way, when they decide that Bubba's baseball camp during the summer is more important than you vacation, you don't get stuck with a reservation you don't need. If it is your own grown children, you may want to pay for the lodging. Just be prepared for other family members not to think the trip is as important as you do.
