Opinions appreciated! My boss wants to rent my DVC points. Do I have him sign a contract? Should I alter my payment requirements? It is so much easier renting to a stranger!:headache:

It is really more of an agreement than a contract. So Yes definitely you need a written agreement, so there is no confusion as to what is provided, not provided etc.

And no I would not alter payment unless you were planning to charge him more, lol

:rotfl:That would be one way to get a raise! I really do think it's harder to rent to people you see everyday!

I would just do an exchange.
What are you looking from him/her this year :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:) I would treat him like any other renter and get a contract.

IMO a contract is really just a guide so everyone knows what to expect and what not to. For a coworker, I'd do a contract (though I don't normally worry about it) to avoid confusion and misunderstanding.

I would not rent points to my boss. If I did, I would definitely do a contract.

I do not rent points to anyone I know or work with. I post on the rent/trade board and after renting for 10 years, I often rent to repeat renters but it is really hard renting to a boss. How do you say no? or you aren't getting your money back if he/she needs to cancel at the last month.

You must be crystal clear on your cancellation policy that all DVC points are not created equal.

It depends on how many points he/she wants. It may be a good career move to help your boss out.

While many people don't use contracts, the Master Deed states that you must use one. If you are uncomfortable with how to handle this with your boss, just tell him DVC requires one.

This is what I am going to tell him. I do have a no cancellation policy, but I will also tell him since I'll be borrowing points for his stay, that I can't put them back should he cancel. These stipulations kind of put it more on DVC than myself( that's what I'm telling myself anyway!)
So far I've only given him dates and prices. So we'll see if it gets any further than that!

I would definitely do a contract just like you would for any renter. Sit down him so he knows the rules you are under and let him know about these boards if he has questions. I think your boss might appreciate the "professionalism" of the transaction.

I'm not an owner QUITE YET - but I know I have co-workers and friends who will request to rent once I do buy (but probably not my boss!) and I've been thinking how to handle that myself alot lately. Even among family - I'd do the standard type contract.

Luckily - I have PLANS for those points I am going to buy and have no intentions of renting for a few years! :cool1:

You beat me to it! I was going to say the exact same thing:

Tell him that DVC requires you to have a signed contract when renting.

That way, he can't be insulted, and you have a signed document that very specifically outlines what the terms are. If anything goes wrong (god forbid) you have something to fall back on. And if it goes REALLY wrong, he can't terminate you out of spite because you have a signed contract...he'd be setting himself up for a wrongful termination suit.

I know, all that sounds rather ominous, but....sometimes it's best to consider worst case scenarios, even when they're unlikely. Most likely, your boss will go, have a great time, and it will be win/win for both of you.

You might also suggest insurance to him. To benefit from the insurance, your boss would need a contract that clearly states the reservation is NOT refundable.

I'd rent to either of my bosses (I have two, lucky me, LOL), but they are both the kind of people that I can tell up front that the transaction makes me nervous and that I don't want it to negatively impact our relationship.

Good luck!

I don't usually do any renting and pretty much have my points booked up for our own use, so, when my boss asked me about 'using' my timeshare, I was able to honestly tell her that it was already used up. I felt extremely uncomfortable about this as I wasn't expecting the request and had never really discussed my ownership that much other then that people I work with knew I go to Disney often and own a timeshare there.

Absolutely the fairest thing you could do is treat your boss exactly like any other renter, in a business-like fashion. Your boss will probably respect this more than anything chummy.
