Renting DVC thru friend/Dining Plan

Hi all! I'm not a DVC member so I don't know anything about it but a friend asked me a question today and I was hoping you guys could help out with an answer!

She is renting points from a friend and staying at Boardwalk villas in April. She hasn't purchased tickets yet but was looking at getting the dining plan.

1. Is she able to add on the dining plan even though she is not the DVC owner and she didn't purchase a "package"?

2. How does she go about this if it is allowed? Who does she contact? She tried doing a chat on disney.com and they really gave her the run around and she didn't get an answer from them.

The DVC owner has to add the dining plan for her, only DVC members are allowed to call the appropriate customer service line. The dining plan has to be paid for when it is added, so she'll need to arrange some way to be in on the call (like a 3-way call or be present with her friend) to handle the payment info, or else provide payment to her friend who can then pay DVC.

Your friend will have to have her friend who owns the DVC points contact member services to add the dining plan to her reservation. I believe they made a recent change so that the dining plan has to be paid for at the time it's added to the reservation so most recommend waiting until closer to the trip (maybe a couple weeks) to add it. Non-owners can NOT contact member services themselves. She can definitely pay to add a dining plan but she has to have her friend do it for her.
