We are renting at AKV in May. I know that DVC owners receive free internet connection as opposed to paying $9.95/night. Does that also apply to people renting? I don't think so, but I just want to check. Also, not sure if this is the right place for this thread, so moderator please move it if it isn't.

The best answer is "maybe."

DVC Member perks, technically, are for DVC Members. That said, since the reservation was made through member services, there is a good chance you won't be charged for the internet service. But if the system does charge you for the service, you have no recourse, as you are not the member, and our DVC paper work specifically says that "renters" are not supposed to receive the perks.

The same applies to DVC dining discounts, Cast Members are beginning to ask for our DVC Membership cards to apply any discounts. And you certainly will not be eligible for the Annual Pass discount.

Renters are not entitled to free Internet, but often get free Internet because the owners don't always tell DVC that the reservation is rented.

So you might get it, but if you don't and it shows up on your bill, you will have to pay it. Only DVC members with a membership card could get that charge removed from their bill if they got charged.

Okay, thanks! I definitely would never try for the dining or DVC discounts.

If I only use it for one night then I'll only be charged $9.95, so we'll see how that goes!

How is DVC aware that you're using the service?

Can someone please describe the process for logging in to the service?

Are you asked for a name / room number / DVC member number or something else?

Is it Wifi based?

:confused3

Thanks!

I haven't used it (yet) but I understand you have to log-in using your resort ID, and you "authorize" a charge if applicable.

The service is ethernet wired at WDW, I think it is wireless at HHI and Vero.

Thanks - not really planning on using it, but was interested in understanding the process.

Thanks for all your replies. So basically, if I try to log on and it asks me to authorize the charge I'll know that it knows I'm not DVC and I won't proceed with it.

I don't think you will - I think (if I'm remembering right) it looks the same for everyone and asks you to authorize being charged, but in small print on the log-in page it says "free for DVC members" or something like that. You don't have to put in a credit card since it's just charged to the room.

We rented points at AKV a few months ago. We were not charged anything additional and had access to internet through the ethernet the entire week. We had to call to ask them how to log on the first day but it wasn't a big deal.

Our KTTW cards had our name and info and said DVC on them. I did ask the first day if we would be charged for internet since we were not members but only renting the points. The CM said as long as our card said DVC we could use the perks (at the time valet parking, internet, using KD pool).

We loved the AKV and had a fantastic trip!
