I am curious to others' experiences renting DVC or resort suggestions. We are making our 4th trip, but first time with kids (DD 4, DD2, DD3). We have stayed at Pop, AKL, GF, and WL. THanks!

We rented points for our upcoming trip. It has worked out great and we will rent points on our future trips too:) We are staying at AKV this fall.

Plan your trip early (11 months out) to get exactly what you want. And make sure your plans are firm because there are typically no refunds or changes on rented reservations.

I rented points last time and I absolutely loved it. I got a Deluxe room for the price of a moderate. I love Deluxe but the prices are really getting out of control. I'm also the type that won't change my dates for any reason especially since once that flight is booked I'm not paying those change prices! It's really easy to do - I'm crossing my fingers there are left over points someone has for a November last minute trip actually! As others say, book early if you want more of a selection but usually SSR and OKW have rooms since they are so large and they are both beautiful.

We did it for our upcoming trip and have had great luck so far. I started the booking process right at the 11 month mark to ensure we got the resort we wanted. It did take about a month for my reservation to come through, though.

We rented at AKV for our upcoming trip in Sept and it seemed very reasonable. We only booked 4.5 mo in advance which I know it pretty short notice. We got an AKV studio std view which I hear can be easier to get into so that probably helped us out. It took about 4 days to get our reservation. We decided to try it out since dlx is out of the range that I'm willing to pay, but we really wanted to stay at AKV :yay:

Have rented points a couple of times with good results. I haven't done it for the past couple of years because I haven't been sure that I could make trips at a definite time. I've stayed at the Swan/Dolphin instead so I could cancel if need be.

We rented DVC points for our past April trip. We rented about 2 months out and got a Studio Savanna View at AKL Jambo House. We had an amazing trip! The entire rental process was very easy! We had great owners that took wonderful care of us. We even needed to add my Mother to our reservation about 2 weeks out (if even!) and the owners made it so simple to do so! We also got the dining plan with our rentals. If it weren't for renting the points, we wouldn't have been able to stay at such an amazing resort! :) I strongly encourage you to try out renting points.

Always ask for references and contact information. The owners should not have a problem providing that information. :) If they do, I'd suggest looking into another owner.

The *one* downside to renting is the full payment with no cancellation allowed. However, we are looking into going back to Disney and will be looking into renting DVC points, again! :)

I rented points for a trip last spring thru an owner on the DVC board here. I did it about 3 months beforehand so my choices were limited, but Kidani turned out to be great. Definitely a good choice with young kids, nice pool, fun water play area, movies at the pool in the evening, etc..

One of the previous posters was most likely correct in that a lot of DVC renters require full payment with no cancellation. However, I like to think that I work with my renters by having an agreement in place, which does state no refunds; however, if a renter must cancel I do give them opportunity to use the rented points through the end of my use year, which could be anywhere from one to 11 months to use them (as availability exists). Cancellations typically follow DVC policies.
I also arrange a payment plan, if desired, usually spread over 3 to 4 payments, with full payment due approximately 6 weeks before the reservation checkin.

Can someone PLEASE tell me which rooms have the best views of the fireworks? My husband told me he wants to stay where he did when he was a kid but he doesn't know which room it was. ALSO, can I get this room if I go with a DVC rental? Thank you!

The short answer is "not quite" - the best theme park/fireworks views are generally considered to be contemporary theme park view (particularly if high floor), and then polynesian theme park view (for various reasons, some place poly views first). Neither are dvc properties, so neither available for dvc rental (both pre-date the creation of dvc). However, dvc relatively recently built Bay Lake Tower, which is sort of an annex to Contemporary (even connected by interior hallway). BLT does have a theme park view category, which can give a pretty good fireworks view at night, but during day, the theme park view rooms are primarily overlooking the Disney parking lot- unlike the poly and contemporary, whose theme park view rooms have a "pretty"/nature/water view even during day. Of course, theme park view rooms at poly and contemporary can be double the cost of a blt rental (or even more).

Thank you!
Can you see the park from your DVC rental theme park view? ALSO, can you take the magical express from the airport? Thanks!

Yes to both.

Just for people who are unfamiliar, BLT is a separate building from the Contemporary. The two buildings are connected via a skybridge from the fifth floor of BLT to the fourth floor (Grand Canyon Concourse) of CR. The skybridge is covered, but isn't indoors.

BLT has TPV villas, but they tend to book up quickly so if you wanted to rent points to stay there, plan to rent 8-11 months ahead of time.
