What does this mean and how do you do it? Can you still get the DDP and ME when you do this?

yes and yes. Visit the DVC Rent/Trade board for more specifics. You rent a DVC member points and use those points for your reservation. You ususally get a pretty good discount on the rooms that way. There is a lot of trust on both sides of the transaction, as Disney isn't involved. The member makes the reservation for you and then "rents" it to you. It's cheaper to do only Sun - Fri stays as weekend points are more per night.

Yes, it's pretty much what jel0511 has said. I would also add that DVC is a whole different type of reservation with many more restrictions than a regular Disney resort stay. It requires a LOT of trust between the owner and renter as Disney does not, and will not, get involved, in these rental transactions.

Be sure you understand that non-members will not have any access to Member Services concerning their reservation. Everything must go through the owner, including adding the Dining Plan and ME, and there are hefty penalties to the owner for cancellations within a certain window.

The DVC seasons are also different than the resort seasons, so what might be a slow resort season, might be a busy DVC season. In addition, you will not receive daily mousekeeping.

Most DVC members check in on Sunday and check out on Friday as the points for Friday and Saturday night are close to double the weekday points.

The DVC community has put together a lot of important and useful rental information located in the stickies on the Rent Trade Board. The most important piece of advice is to be as informed as possible about DVC, and the person you are renting from.

Owners also take a lot of risk booking a reservation for someone and run the danger of a renter dragging out payment and cancelling causing the owner to lose points.

The best solution in order to avoid the majority of problems is to request, and receive, a written rental agreement.

Good luck! :)

You are really renting a reservation from a DVC member that they make with their points. So you are dealing with an individual and not Disney. Disney won't get involved in any form if you have problems.

Some things that you might want to know:

1. The member fully controls the reservation until the moment you check in. You can't call Member Services to confirm the reservation or to add dining or ME or a view. If you are not the member, you can't call Member Services.

2. The member sets the rules for payment and cancellation. They might require full payment as soon as they make the reservation. They might not accept Pay Pal. They might not allow any changes or cancellations. They might keep any deposit if you do decide to cancel, even for an emergency.

3. You will get limited housekeeping. If you stay 7 nights or fewer, on day 4, your towels will be replaced and your trash removed. That's is. No vacuuming, no bed making. If you stay 8 nights or more, you will get a full cleaning on day 4, then trash and towels on day 8.

4. You will get limited services. Only four bath towels , two hand towels and four face cloths in a studio or one bedroom. Two bedroom gets twice that.

5. Occupancy is strict in a DVC villa. A studio only sleeps four, plus one under the age of three. Same for a one bedroom. Two bedroom sleeps eight plus one under 3.

6. You can add DDP without having to purchase a ticket for each guest staying in the villa. The member will have to add this to your reservation at least a few days before you arrive. All guests, for the entire stay, just like the other resorts.

7. You need to get a member to make your reservation ahead of time. You can't wait until a few months ahead of time and expect to get that villa. DVC villas get booked quickly by members, usually at 11 months ahead of time. The AKV are the newest DVC villas and are very limited in number so they will be hard to get for a while.

8. You might find a reservation available on the Disney website for the exact villa you want from a member, but the member says it is not available. And that would be true. What you see on the website are the villas that were traded out by members to get the DCL or other Disney sites. So they are no longer available for points reservations.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
