Hi all my question is what is renting DVC points.
I have no clue so please tell me what it is about :confused3

I assume its like renting a time share?
any info is good info (as long as its acurate)

thanks in advance

Well, it's renting points from a DVC member. You would contact someone and ask to rent their points and they would call DVC and book it for you. The going rate is $10 - $12 per point.

It can be a GREAT savings over what you would pay if you booked the room yourself through Disney.

I rented my points out once last year to someone on the DIS. She got to know me and felt safe renting from me. There is a risk and trust involved (you pay the deposit and then the DVC member cancels your reservation for example) but if you go with someone with a high post count and references, you should be fine.

We agreed to everything and had a contract drawn up to make each other feel better. She gave me half the money up front and the other half 2 months before. I booked it right away and sent her the confirmation letter. She then called them to confirm and even made her special requests.

She got a studio at the Boardwalk for $90 a night which is a great bargain.

It would be up to you and the DVC member to decide the terms of the rental.

It would be wise to make your decision early on so that you have a higher chance of availability.

I would only rent if I was 100% certain I wouldn't be canceling as most will NOT return any deposits. They will try and reschedule for you but not refund the money.

The best place to ask your DVC questions is over on the DVC boards.

DVC is a timeshare and you have to rent points from owners and they will make the reservation for you. The owner sets the price anywhere from 10-15 dollars a point and they set the terms. Please be aware that almost all owners have a no cancellation policy so make sure your plans are firm or you could loose out. Go to the rent/trade board once you decide where you would like to try and stay.

thanks for the in fo I will go to the other board i didnt realize there was a board just for DVC

now where are the hotels, rooms located, where do i find maps

thanks

DVC resorts are Boardwalk, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs.

You can find more info on each resort HERE. They have photos, maps, prices and more info on each.

As a DVC member can you rent points from another member so you can have more points to make a reservation or do the rented points have to be under a separate reservation?

For example - if we have don't have enough points(banked + current UY + borrowed = 280) to get a 2 BR villa(345 ponts) can we rent the additional 65 points from someone to make up the difference?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Members who a few points shy for a reservation could rent from another member in either of two ways. You could rent a reservation from a member and easily link your dates with that one into one seamless reservation .... or .... you could find another member to transfer points into your account and them you could make the reservation yourself. Not all points may be transferred (only current points that have not been previously borrowed or banked).

In either case, just post your needs on the Rent/Trade Board. (Be sure to use the appropriate title for your request.)

Good luck! :)

I did this in January. I needed 13 points to make a reservation. All the points I had were borrowed already. It worked out very well, except not too many want to rent a "few points". You will still find some one.
