Anybody know any reliable sources to rent DVC points for the end of August?
Prefer OKW, but anywhere is fine. We only need a studio for 3. Mousesavers recommends Davids Rentals, but I have no experience in this area.

I am interested in a partial reservation through Disney so I can use my rewards points and a partial point rental to cut down the costs a little.

Thanks!

There is a rent/transfer board here if you scroll down to the DVC section. Sometimes you can get the points at a lower cost from an individual who is trying to "get rid" of their points before they expire! We've rented points the last 4 trips and are renting for our trip in Sept. Good luck!

Previous poster is correct about the rent/trade board. It is a good place to check. As you say David's rental is also a good option. He comes highly recommended and I have never read anything bad about his service. You can probably do a search to read some prior posts and get some opinions from people who have used his service.

Using him will take the "worry" out of dealing with a stranger, if you happen to be concerned about that. Although your options for DVC resorts at this point will be limited since the end of August isn't that far away.

Good luck and enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

I'v rented points from this site, being next month I would realy not call last minute, seems you like OKW I would not think you will have a problim. Not sure how east its going to be to link the reservations though, as you will have nothing to do with makeing the DVC reservation. But for sure go to the DVC section of this web site and ask

that's probably a good choice.

not sure what will still be available - timeshares tend to book up earlier than hotels since timeshare owners risk losing their pts if they wait too long. be aware that you will likely not have the option to cancel whichever way you go since DVC points become very limited in value if you cancel within a month of travel.

I would suggest doing this as soon as possible for several reasons:

-OKW could be fully booked or nearly so.
-It is much easier for a DVC member to reserve a reservation and collect money several months in advance of a rental.

The rent/trade board would be a good place to start, and you will find information for David's Rentals too. You may also find a reservation that someone is unable to use, and it may fit your dates. Good luck!

Check out David's site. I believe he has specials for points that are getting ready to expire.

It really doesn't matter how last minute, how fire sale the points, how many points to rent, if there isn't availability, you can't use any of those points.

Only a member can find out availability.

Check out Davids site, very easy to deal with. We booked Villas @ Wilderness with him.

David seems to be pretty quick at checking availabilty.

We have rented for the past 7 years. I have always gone with an individual and you can sometime get points as low as $9 a point if it is last minute. It is good that you want OKW because that and SSR are the only resorts I have ever been able to get at the last minute. We will be staying in a 2 bedroom BWV this September on points! Can not wait!!!!!

I don't think this is really possible. DVC reservations need to be made by the DVC member using points. They can "purchase" a set number of extra points to use each year, but it's a low number (I forget exactly something like 15). This is really just meant to let an owner get a few extra points they need to let them get an extra night so as not to lose a few spare points.

Now if by a partial reservation you were simply referring to a split stay, then yes, that is definitely possible. You can rent a DVC room through a villa reservation and pay cash for it, but the costs for doing that are typically more than just getting a regular hotel room. If you did this you would need to change from one reservation to the other mid trip, almost definitely moving rooms. Or you could do the point rental, and then move to a normal hotel mid trip as well.

That's because he is a member and owns at multiple resorts. But with short notice stays, you have to be able to book it right away because it may be gone if you wait to check it out with the hubby or the other guests. Even with David you will have to say, any resort, any size for these days and book it for me. Here's my money. Get what you can.

Thanks for the info. I read through some of the rent/trade board threads. It seems like David's Rental may be my answer.

I have a reservation at POR, but rethinking the space.

Do all the brokers have access to the same inventory availability? In other words, one broker reported no avilaiblity, will that be true at the next broker? Thanks in advance.

Yes. The only exception is if a broker is representing a Dedicated Reservation for Rent. Those will be for an exact set of dates, and an exact unit type -- no flexibility on their end.

Another exception might be if you are within the home resort booking period (7 to 11 months out) and need an owner with points at the resort you are booking. There might be available units, but no owners at that resort. Then you have to wait until seven months out and then it's likely there will be no availability at all.

Most likely.

Unless someone cancels something in between the two brokers checking. Last minute, it doesn't matter what home resort someone has. The only question is what's available and how many points it will cost (you will likely know your $/point cost already).

But really, this is the sort of thing to decide on stat and then get to contacting David's etc.

I sent in a request to David's a couple of months ago for September for a certain resort. They sent back an email within hours saying there was nothing at my requested resort and gave me a list with prices of the limited rooms that were available. Unfortunately none of them worked for us so I can't tell you how things went after the initial contact. I did have to give a deposit with a credit card at the time I sent in my request but it was refunded immediately when I replied that I wasn't interested in booking any of the resorts that were available. I will definitely use them again.
