Hi, new to these boards and reading through threads...wondering about info regarding "renting DVC points" for lodging. Can anyone give me the specifics on this? Is it a good deal? Have you done this? Who do you contact, etc.......We are trying to plan a trip for 4/2006 with our 4 kids (2 teens, 2 school agers), and I could really use use some advice on where to stay to keep everyone happy! The teens aren't really too excited about going to WDW (!), but we haven't been in 7 years or so. The younger two can't wait. Thanks in advance. :sunny:

There is a board dedicated to DVC information. On the DVC rent/trade board there is a section describing everything you want to know about renting points. Also if you have any questions you will find answers on the DVC board.
That said I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I think given the size of your family renting a two bedroom villa would be a wonderful option. The DVC resorts are great, we loved them so much that we bought our own points! You also have the option of reserving two adjoining rooms in a regular hotel, but we personally love the feel of the master bedroom in the 2 bedroom villas. The room feels luxurious and has the added convenience of the kitchen and family room. If you stayed in the BCV you would be close to the boardwalk and EPCOT which may be more attractive to your older children.
If you decide to rent points I would try to arrange it as soon as possible. The room can be reserved 11 months in advance but you can make arrangements ahead of time so that the member can reserve the room as soon as reservations open. Renting points are such a good deal that they are actually a little hard to come by.

fort205,

First of all, Welcome to the DIS! :cool1:

You will need either 2 regular rooms or a 2 Bedroom DVC Villa for your family. Where you stay all depends on your budget and your preferences. Your teens would probably enjoy the Boardwalk area or Sarataga Springs Resort (DVC). Your school-age kids will probably like any resort with a cool pool. Be aware that there are no pool slides at any of the Value Resorts (All-Stars, Pop Century).

There are plenty of folks who rent points over on the DVC boards, usually for about $10 per point. If you are planning to go the 2 weeks around Easter, you may want to try to book ASAP. DVC rentals are almost always non-refundable and payment in full is often required. Unless you are 100% sure when and where you wish to stay, DVC may not be for you.

I'm curious about this too, for our upcoming October trip. We will have 6 adults & toddlers, but we don't necessarily have to be in the same "room". I realize most points can be rented for $10/point, but how do I know how much an average week may cost me? Any resort is fine, the cheaper the better, since we will be doing the 7 nt. Western cruise the following week too! :boat:

follow this link and it should answer just about any questions you might have about renting. http://www.wdwinfo.com/dvc/renttrade-faq.htm

If you're staying on-site in a moderate to deluxe hotel, renting points will definitely save you money.
