Renting DVC points for GC stay Jan 2012

We will be at the Tinkerbell Marathon end of January. We've reserved a room at GC. Got reduced marathon rate for the room.

Now we're pricing out the option of renting DVC points and it would be less to go that route. Has anyone here done that? Any idea about what availability will be the end of Jan?

There's a nice thread over on the WDW boards with availability, but I didn't see anything like that here.

Looking for some insight, info, ideas.

We already submitted the request with refundable deposit (only $65) if there isn't any availability.

The GCV pretty much book up at the 7 month mark but you might get lucky. Your best bet would be to find out the number of points you need and post over in the DVC rent/trade section. At 6 months out, it might be difficult to get a reservation. The GCV are amazing and book quickly.

It never hurts to try, but reservations inside 7 months can be difficult.
There are only 23 studios, so you will need a little luck

Late January is Adventure Season, which has the lowest point cost.

I was looking at doing the same thing but I'm not ready to put the full amount down if something came available.

I am still looking for points for August if DD 18 gets accepted onto their college program..anyone have any great ideas.
