We've rented points for August and I'm not sure if we should add the DDP now or wait. If we have to cancel, would the dining plan cost be refundable? (I know the room on points is not). Thanks in advance!!

When renting points you can't cancel your reservation so I'd assume it would be the same for the dining plan. I'd never advise to plan a trip on rented points if you thought you might have to cancel. I know at least one of the point rental agencies does offer some type of "trip insurance" (DVC Rentalstore) so that might be something you could look into.

You still have plenty of time to decide but remember to leave enough time, at least a month, for your broker to contact the owner so they can add it to the reservation. I've read reports of renters wanting to add the DP but because the owner was away on vacation or something they weren't able to.

I don't have any plans to cancel, but things happen. We rented from a friend, and I plan to get private insurance anyway. I was just curious because no one seems to know the answer to this.

I'm pretty sure the DP is a private transaction between renter and owner but I do know you can cancel the DP 48 hrs before check-in with dvc without penalty. Ask this over on the dvc board. You should get a lot of help there.

Most owners would have you pay for the dining plan with your own funds, either by giving them your credit card number, doing a three-way call so you can give your credit card, or by purchasing gift cards for the transaction. So, in the event of a cancellation, the funds would return directly to you.
