You would need at least a deducated 2BR villa at Disney's Grand Californian. And that would be with everyone sharing a bed with another person. A lot will depend on when you're looking to go but typically, renting VGC thru a rental site is difficult at best. It's not large, as DVC resorts go, and its owners tend to use their points for themselves. You might want to look for a VGC owner thru a private rental on the Rent/Trade Board.
But if your looking for a broker, the sponsoring website for the DIS is as good as any. https://dvcrentalstore.com/
ETA: If you want get an estimate as to what a 2BR rental at VGC would cost you, you can use the calculator on this broker's website. https://dvcrequest.com/dvc-guests/cost-calculator
For instance, a 3-night, weekend stay in mid-October would run you about $3500. That's not to say that there's actually a room available. The tool is only a cost estimator. There would still need to be one of the 23 dedicated 2BR villas available to book those nights.

There are a lot of reasonable priced hotels really close to Disneyland that are actually a closer walk to the parks than the actual Disneyland hotel. You really don’t need to stay DVC when visiting Disneyland as it’s so compact and surrounded by the city of Anaheim. Visit the Disneyland forums here on the DIS and they can help you plan much better.
we have no problem booking two separate rooms. do you think that would be a better way to go cost-wise? you ever book through dvc rentals? if so any suggestions as to which ones?

thanks for the reply. we have stayed off resort each time we've ever gone. we are going with grandparents that need to be able to go to and from the room often

Then you'll need to look at two hotel rooms in order to get all the beds (non-sleeper sofas) you want. When do you plan to have your trip? You can find good convention rates for certain events that happen - Dapper Days, Gay Days, that sort of thing...
Dapper Days 2021 happens November 13-14, but you can get discounted rooms from November 10-19. I did a quick check and it's $434/night at Grand Californian and $334/night at Disneyland Hotel (+ extra adult fees for more than 2 adults per room)
