Renting both a car and a scooter?

My mother and I have taken several trips to Disney World together, and typically we rent a scooter for her for the duration of the trip and utilize the bus system.

We would like to try renting a car on our next trip as we may be making some stops outside of the World.

However, we would also still require the rental of a scooter.

Has anyone rented both? Are there any models of scooters to rent that break down easily to be stowed into a car? Do we need to rent a van that is scooter accessible with a ramp? Should we rent a regular car and then try renting a scooter at the park every morning and drop it off before leaving? (She is able to walk short distances for short periods of time)

I am just wondering if trying to rent scooters and cars are mutually exclusive. Has anyone had experience with this?

There are "travel-size" scooters which break down fairly easily, and can be lifted into the trunk of most cars. The heaviest piece is usually 30-40 lbs.

You might want to post on the disABILITIES board for suggestions as to rental companies and scooter models.
