We where watching a show on travel channel all about Disney resorts and the lady on the show was in what she called a surrey bike (the ones your whole family rides together). We would like to go to the boardwalk for an hr or so and try out these bikes.I would like to find out info on renting them so my questions are. Where do we rent them from in the boardwalk area? How much are they to rent? How long can you rent them for? Where can you go with them?( I saw here go for ice cream in one and that looks fun) What are the rental hrs for these bikes? Can a child of 8 ride with us on one? Can two adults and a child petal one with ease or is it hard? Last but not least what is needed to rent them as far as reservations and or ID's? I am so sorry for all the questions but nothing in my travel books speaks of these bikes in detail and I figured for all you experts out there one of you might know about these bikes. We are going this Sept and I figured we would try this out before MNSSHP. Thanks so much for any help you may give me in planning my magical vacation once again:thanks: :disrocks:

you can rent them at BW - they have them out front. you can see them from the boat.

(here the parking lot is in the back). the BW is along the front

don't remember the cost - well try to find it. they are expensive for a bike.

yes your child can ride with you.

very hard to get up the hill - between YC, D&S, BW - that is the only problem have seem.

If you prefer a flat ride, you can also rent them at WL and ride them to FW and back. Not as exciting as the hills around Boardwalk, but still a lot of fun.

I have rented them at both BW and WL. The WL is easier as there are less people on the path. Keep in mind that the 4 person bike ways 450lbs before anyone gets in so you could easily weigh 1000lbs or more which makes it difficult to pedal unless you have 2 or 3 strong people. The hill over the waterway to the IG is a tough one. The bikes are rented for about $25/30 min if I remember correctly.

I rented one at Poly. I heard from others on here, as well as the rental manager, that they were hard, people didn't stay out the whole half hour, etc. I am out of shape, middle aged, don't exercise and they were NOT hard to do, IMO! We did hit one hill that was a bit hard - we just got out and pushed. No problem. We had no problem on small hills. My youngest was 10, though. We had a LOT of fun! You'll have a blast!

You do not need a reservation and I'm not sure if they would even accept one. I'm not sure what kind of ID you would need.

Per Tikiman's website, rates at the Poly are as follows, and I would expect rates everywhere at Disney to be the same:

Surrey Bikes

2 seater $18.77 for 30 min.

4 seater $20.65 for 30 min

We rented one of these in 2006. It was me, my friend and my then 8 year old niece. Lucky for us the guy at the bike shack convinced us to do a 2-seater and put the 8yo in the front basket (it's like a child seat). I don't think we could've peddled the 4-seater -- like previous poster said, it weighs like 450 pounds empty! We had fun though and it wasn't too awfully hard to pedal -- a bit rough on the hills at POR -- but otherwise okay. The worst part was getting the child out of the basket -- he had her wedged in there pretty good:)

So could our family of 5 rent the 4 seater with our 2 year old in the front basket. I seem to remember the front area having belts, just no pedals, right? Do they allow that?

Yes, unless they've changed something since we were there. If I remember right, the front basket has belts for 2 small children (similar to a grocery cart).
