Renting a reservation - 30 day rule

We've decided to switch from our regular reservation to the Disney Cruise. Instead of spending points on the cruise, I wanted to rent out our current reservation and spend the money on the cruise instead. In reading the rules on the rental board, I realize that if I want to rent out my reserved nights, I have to wait to the 30 day mark. I'm nervous about doing that because I don't want to lose those points if for some reason I can't find a renter. My points would expire too soon for me to use them if they go into holding. Any recommendations? If I post a reservation at the 30-day mark (won't list specifics because I don't want to break the rules), how likely is it that I'll find a renter? I also realize I could drop the reservation and post a transfer or point rental, but I'm not sure if that's the best solution either. I'd appreciate any input.

I would list it on another site or local paper.

It's a big risk to hold onto a ressie that long and then your points are holding points and I will tell you first hand, you really want to avoid holding points.

You could post your points for rent or transfer now. If you are successful in finding someone who wants to rent them or wants a transfer then cancel your existing reservation and use the points to make a reservation for your renter. If you haven't been able to rent/transfer them by the 30-day point, then post your reservation for rent.

You can't use the DIS to find someone to rent a confirmed reservation that is more than 30 days away.

Sounds like you already know your options -

* Find a renter elsewhere if you want to rent your current reservation.

* Wait until the 30 day mark and post your reservation on the DIS Rent/Trade Forum

* Cancel the reservation and put a post on the DIS Rent/Trade Forum that you have points to rent.

* If the points you used to make the reservation are current use year points, you can cancel the reservation and advertise a transfer to another member. There is no 30 day restriction on point transfer posts on the DIS.

Can't think of any others, unless you want to cancel and bank the points (if they are still bankable) for future use.

Do you know anyone (co-worker, relative, friend) who might be interested in your reservation?
