Hi,
My wife is taking me to WDW for my 40th birthday, but she's left the transportation to me.

Has anyone ever rented something along the lines of an '07 convertible Mustang, or a Jaguar or something really wild?

Tell me about it. Cost, handling, turning it back in... I've never had the need to rent a car anywhere, so I'm new to it.

Was it worth it? How were the rental companies to deal with?

Thanks for any help!

A lot of companies rent the convertable Mustangs. I've gotten one from either Dollar or Budget--can't remember which--several times. The back seats are really small and there are no rear wind screens so you get pretty blown around.

Check your insurance. If you use the credit card as insurance a lot of them won't cover "exotic" cars. (Mustanges are generally covered as are other covnvertibles, Jags may not be depends on the card)

Hertz is once source, when you make the reservation and it brings up the cars you will see a place where it says something like "display full vechile listing" click there and then be prepared to PAY LOL!

Your own auto insurance might not even cover an "exotic" car.

There are agencies that specialize in exotic car rentals

I've never used this agency, and have no information regarding them.

I'd say this is one of those things that is better in concept than in reality. Outside of WDW trips, I've done luxury rentals and have found them to be more stressful than anything else...worry about people hitting them, taking them, etc. Have done the convertibles, but have paid the price with wicked sunburns on my balding scalp.

While at WDW, we spend 13 hours a day at the parks and about 45 minutes on the road, so your basic midsize or fullsize (white Ford Taurus anyone?) does the job just fine.

My opinion? Redirect the cash you would spend on a rental upgrade and have nicer dinners, better bottles of wine, whatever. But hey, if you are a motorhead and want to do the nice car thing, then go for it. You're only 40 once!
