Need to rent a car in Septemeber from Houston for 5 days. Any tips or codes out there to help with expenses?

I usually shop the usual companies...it's way cheaper if you prepay, also expedia and the lot have good prices too. Whenever I rent I end up shopping around each time.

Got a great code & coupon combo off of www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html that I used on Alamo. Try multiple combo's of code and coupon. Was able to get midsize - Chevy Malibu - for 4 days, Sunday to Wednesday, for $75 when I picked up at Balt / Wash International this week. Saved about $50.

One tip - if you are flexible about your travel dates and how many days total, check one day longer or shorter, and try for a weekend if possible. When you rent weekdays, 4 or 5 days is often much more than a weeks rental. Renting Thursday to Monday is often really cheap, though. So check all the options!

When we have needed them we book through BJ's since we have membership there. It's super easy through their website, click the car rental place you want and check the price and book if desired. For our Aug trip booking direct was $485, same car, dates, times through the BJ's link was $195.
