Renting a car questions

trying to decide if we should rent a car at MCO or not. We don’t want to pay to rent it as well as the cost to park it at Universal the 2 days we are there but won’t actually be using it. But we need to get from the airport to hotel and also after the 2 days we are going to Clearwater for a day and then to Port Canaveral. There will be 2 adults, 2 kids, and 4 suitcases if that matters.

If we take Uber/Lydt from airport and just rent a car at the hotel for the one day we really need it can we return it elsewhere (Port Canaveral) or do we have to return it back to the hotel? And can we rent a car at the hotel after we’ve checked out? Are there other rental car or transportation options near Universal that will provide what we need?

Just go to the rental agency’s website and price out what you need. If there are cars available for that pickup and drop-off combo on that day you’ll see the pricing.

I reserved a car for my June trip from the Budget on Kirkman Rd. For me they were the cheapest in the area and they will pick you up from a Universal Hotel.

You can return rental cars elsewhere, I returned mine at MCO that I rented at the Doubletree at Universal (through Costco). There may be an additional fee to return at Port Canaveral. I agree to check prices ahead of time. All the Universal resorts have Avis now, I used Avis at the Doubletree because it was cheaper for my purposes, Coach Z mentioned Budget. I used Lyft from the airport to Universal to avoid the parking fees, then got a car for a few days and returned it at the airport.

That is what I am doing as well. I’m renting a car after the Universal portion of my trip to avoid parking fees. Plus I don’t plan on leaving Universal property once I’m there. Tony Hinds company will be picking me up at the airport and providing transportation to Universal.

Tony is wonderful! I've used him twice for my son's trips and we have him booked for our trip in a few weeks!! This trip we are not planning to leave Universal or Disney properties once we arrive since it's a short trip so we didn't want to spend money on car rental and parking. Tony had his other drivers cover my son's trips- they are wonderful as well!!
