Can someone please tell me about renting a car from Budget at port. I know it's not right at the port. They said they would pick us up. Has anyone done this before? Can you please tell me how it's done. We will have 8 people and we already reserved a van. But I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. Can 1 person go get the van and come back to port to pick everyone else up? Thanks
Jenn

The car rental place is at a hotel about 1/2 mile from the Port. The hotel is a Radisson and is a decent place to stay (I've stayed there several times because I have family that lives in Cocoa).

I am pretty certain they'll shuttle you over on the Radisson shuttle, or bring the van to you and shuttle the courier back to the hotel via the Radisson shuttle. Either way, it'll be painless. I've rented from that car place too with no problems.

We rented from Budget in November. After you disembark follow the crowd to the parking lot, then look for a big white tent off to the left. All the rental shuttles pick up there. I can't say what the usual wait times are, when we got to the tent the Budget van was there and one other family was there, and we all fit (two familys of 4) and left right away. The Budget office was several miles away, one counterperson taking care of both of us. We had a reservation and were on our way fairly quickly and were checking in at WDW a little after 10. Someone else may have a different story, but it worked for us. BTW, we had taken the Disney bus from the airport to start the cruise.

I havent used Budget yet but I am reserved for January and a fellow dis'er said in a past thread to go to the budget site and sign up for fast break which allows you to go to a different line and get waited on much faster. I did that and received my card in the mail. It is a free service and I am sure will be well worth the few minutes it took me to sign up. Have fun....

Avis is the car rental office that use to be located at the Raddison hotel at the port. This was very convenient and we used it ourselves when we cruised 3 years ago. Avis is no longer located there so we have decided to go with whoever gives us the best rate. I highly suggest you go to www.dcltribute.com as Dave gives you all the information you could possible need on the car rentals in that area.

To my knowledge, you don't pay for Fastbreak.

We will be renting a car after the cruise, not sure whether we'll use Avis or Budget (depends on price as we get closer to our cruise dates). My plan is to have DH go pick up the car while I wait with the luggage and the kids, I think I read on these boards that many people do this. I think this will be easier than trying to all go with two small children and all of our luggage.

I booked a rental from National. I got great deal thru my emploer. Is it close to the port ?

National is down in Cocoa Beach, on the right side as you head south. They have a deal with a cab company for a $11 ride - you will probably need to call them to get this.

I wish I could tell you how long it takes to get there from the Port, but the only time we went was between hurricanes this year and the electricity was still out, so no stop lights - it was a mess and we were running right up to their close time (but we called and the nice lady there stayed, so all was well).

DisneyWorldDelight,

No, it didnt cost a thing nor did I sign up for any length of time and no contract. Just a service I guess they would offer to people who use them often or whatever but I dont. This is the only time I have or will be using them other than my next dcl cruise. Just ensures you will get a quicker in and out service. HTH

When we cruised last year, the Budget at the Port did not offer the fastbreak service.

I have a rental reserved for Feb 05 and there was no fastbreak option there still. There was at Orlando Airport though.

I don't know if Fastbreak would be useful at the Cocoa office, and when we were there there was line anyway. There was only one other family with us, and one counterperson.

There was also no need for us to split up, there was room in the van for everyone. Maybe we were lucky and got to the shuttle point before the crowd. If there is ever a crowd.

Hi...Can someone please tell me the exact location of Budget at the port? Is it actually in Port Canaveral or is it in Cocoa Beach? I looked on the budget.com website and couldn't figure out which location to pick, thanks!

COCOA BEACH, FL - 8401 ASTRONAUT BLVD.

Hours of Operation: <X-TAB> </X-TAB>Sunday: 7:00AM - 3:00PM

The DCL terminal now has a dedicated pick-up/drop-off area for the rental car shuttle buses...you do not have to walk across the to the big white tent anymore. The new area is adjacent to the terminal.

Budet is in Cocoa Beach and the few times we have rented with them the line for the shuttle was very long at the port...we opted to take a taxi to the rental location instead. Also, at the rental location they usually only have 1, sometimes 2 people on the desk so the lines can get long at times and they did not have a separate FastBreak line. The location is very small.

Thank you so much everyone for all of the info!

When I called Disney about another question, they told me to rent from national at the port. Do they have a deal together or is Budget just as accessible. I am going stickly with who ever is cheapest and easiest as we are going to head to Sea world beofre catching our return flight.
