We are renting a car from Avis for 2 weeks flying into and out of Sanford/Orlando. We usually just pay the tolls with change out of our pockets. Can anyone tell me if this has changed? Or do all rentals have Sunpass on them. I have a GF that just came back and said they added $2.90/day for Sunpass. Is there nobody working the tolls now? Also we have always driven from just MCO, how many tolls will I encounter going to Cypress Point, or downtown disney area? I just want to be prepared. TIA

If you go via SR 417, all tolls can be paid in cash. If you take I-4, there are no tolls at all. No need for a Sunpass.

Thanks for the info. We are doing the same thing and were wondering if we were going to get killed with tolls driving from Sanford. Glad to know it's possible to avoid them. Does traveling the non-toll road take longer/have more traffic?

I am also just wondering in general are the tolls still all taking cash? We are driving to Tampa a few times as well! I remembering reading somewhere about them going cashless and having to buy sunpasses somewhere. Any infor would be great!

The answer to both parts of your question is yes. SR 417 just might be faster and would allow you to bypass most or maybe all rush hour traffic. If you're in no hurry, take I-4. Here is a map of all toll roads in Central Florida: http://www.expresswayauthority.com/corporate/travel/assets/ExpressMap2009.pdf
All toll roads here take cash.

If you take I-4 (the main highway) to Tampa, there are no tolls. The Tampa crosstown expressway does have some tolls, but this probably wouldn't pertain to you.
