Renting a car at disney - good idea?

I usually stay at POP. I use a car to all the parks but MK as the bus goes right to the park and teh car only goes to the TTC.

Last time from MK to POP, part of the group took the bus and I had to drive. I got to POP about 20 minutes after the rest.

great tips we are wondering if we should rent a car too. looks like I will be looking up rates!

We've been renting a car for our trips since 2002 and haven't looked back. I have only stepped foot on a WDW bus 1 time in the last 4 trips (from Nov 08-Mar 10). Heck, we even drive to MK as the whole point of having a car is that we can go from a park to McDonald's if our son is craving a cheeseburger. (He has Asperger's and one of the few protein-heavier foods he eats is a McD's cheeseburger, though he's very slowly learning to accept other cheeseburgers.) We love the freedom of going when we want, where we want - and we're always guaranteed a seat on the ride "home" from the park.

the first few days of our next trip we will be on the premium dining plan with lots of tours, shows, etc so we'll rent a car as some of the tours begin even before bus service starts for the day. AFTER those few days, it's still in the air as to whether we'll keep the car. I'm thinking not.

Yes, the buses can be a huge pain at park closing so we just try not to leave with the whole darn crowd. We'll see how it goes.
