It is my understanding that a "renter" can call and check on the names associated with a specific reservation if they have the reservation number, but the renter cannot make any changes to the reservation. All changes must be handled by the DVC member through MS. Am I correct ?

Also, does the renter call MS or the main phone # for the resort ?

Thanks

DVC changed their policy.

you can't call at all. MS will not talk to you.

now about 4 days before you arrival you can call the resort. they get the reservations from DVC between 5 and 4 days before your arrival.

you can also ask the person you are renting from - for a new reservation confirmation.

The member retains ownership and complete control of the reservation until the renter checks into the resort. Member Services will not speak to anyone but the owner about the reservation - not even to confirm that a reservation exists. They will ask for a member number and partial SSN to confirm that they are speaking with the owner.

Some renters have called the resort a few days prior to check-in to confirm the reservation. This doesn't always work, though, as I have heard occasional reports that renters were not able to get confirmation from the resort.

may be they were calling to early.

renters from dvc member should be treated like renters from CRO.

so would like to know what the resort gave as an excuse not to talk to renters - no matter who they are.

Here's what i did in short notice for the renter-
I contacted MS to email me a ressie confirmation with the renter's info so I can forward it to them. Then after I receive the mail confirmation- scanned and email that to her as well.
The email from MS should be good enough to forward to renters.

Is there a reason to confirm a reservation if you have a printed confirmation?
(sorry if that is a dumb question...)

The owner can cancel the reservation at any time, so really the written confirmation is no guarantee. Neither is a verbal confirmation from the resort.

No - you're completely wrong. A renter does not have any kind of financial transaction with Disney/DVC. They are there as the guest of the member, and that's why DVC won't talk to anyone but the member.

If you want Disney to talk to you, pay the cash prices through CRO :crazy2:
