Rented points reservation question.

Let me see if I got this right. I know if I rent some points to someone I make the reservations for them, but how does it work if there are only a small amount of points (ex. 20-30 pts.)? Since a small amount of points will not obviously be enough for a week, or even a day, how does the balance get taken care of? Do they pay cash or with their points. I am new to this so I thank you in advance for your patience.

If you have extra points that you want to rent to someone, you need to have the amount of points needed for their reservation. If you are talking about transfering points into another member's account you would transfer what they want from you.

Maybe I need another cup of coffee, but I have NO CLUE what you are asking here?

I think I know what the the OP is asking.....if he/she rents points to someone, what happens if he doesn't have enough points to cover the reservation that the renter wants?

You can't pay for part of a night with points and part with cash. For instance, you have a renter who wants three nights in a studio at OKW. During the cheapest season, I think it's 8 points a night for an OKW studio. So, the reservation would require 24 points.

If you only have 20 points to rent, you could use 16 of them to make the reservation for two of the nights that the renter wants. They'd then have to find another member who could make the third night's reservation for them or they could pay cash for the third night.

That was probably as clear as mud, but I hope it helps.

IF that's OP's question, your answer is very clear.

However OP better know what they're doing. If they only have 20 points, and go to make a reservation, MS may very well borrow points from the following use year, which can magnify the risk to the owner considerably depending on where they are in their use year. Ms will tell them they're borrowing, but someone unfamiliar with the process could well not understand what that means.

This is the question I was looking for answers to!

I do not own DVC (yet!) and I'm looking at renting for a future trip. I notice that a number of posts in the Rent/Trade forum are for smaller numbers of points (25 or 50, for example). Are those amounts of points best used towards a short stay that only requires the 25 points?

If we were DVC members, is it helpful to be able to rent small amounts of points from other members?

Or is there a simple way to combine points I would rent from 2 different DVC members? I think what you all have said here is that there would have to be separate reservations made by the different members I've rented from. So, if I rented 100 points from one member and still needed 20 more for the final night of my trip, I would have to rent those 20 from someone else and hope that a room night was still available in the same resort? Is there a way to meld those 2 reservations so that we wouldn't have to switch rooms for that final night?

If those questions are too rambling to answer, you can just tell me if it's best and easiest for everyone involved to just rent the number of points we need from one person!

Your question is not too rambling, but the answer is still yes, it is better just to rent from one person. That used to be the best answer, now it's the only answer, because only one transfer is being allowed per year.

Normally, if a DVC member rents points from another member, we would have them transfer the points to our account -- it's just easier, cleaner, and less risky for both parties. with a new procedural change, DVC will no longer allow multiple transfers, so if you join DVC, you'll have to get any extra points you need from one person.

The short answer is that if the renter is NOT a DVC member you are not renting them points, you have to rent them a reservation. (As non members, there is nothing they can do with points.) If you can get them "X" number of days with your points, you are fine. If the points only cover a partial reservation, it is probably less trouble to rent the total time needed from one member.
