Rented a couple of things for trip - advice?

I feel like an idiot posting this. After getting opinions about what else I should think of taking to WDW with me, I have rented a couple of things.

I have a Nikon D50 with the kit 18-55 lens and a 55-200. Although I have owned the camera for 3 years, I generally take "snapshots." I have two young children and I will be taking pictures of everything Disney from them to them on rides to the parks and anything else that strikes me. I have generally used the 18-55 for most pictures and used the 55-200 for only long distance shots and I have only ever used the pop-up flash.

Well, based on advice on here, it seems that most people think that I should also take another lens and a flash with me. So, I rented a 35mm f/1.8 and an SB-600 flash. (Both are things that I would consider buying, but renting them gives me the chance to use them on this trip when I couldn't spend $400+ to buy them now.)

Here's the stupid question - since I have never used a lens like this or a flash other than the pop-up - can you give me advice an how to make the most of my trip pictures? Should I only use the rented lens on dark rides? Are there other places where it would be the best lens to use? What about the flash? The suggestion was to use it as a fill flash but, again, I have not done this before.

I have always taken all of my pictures using auto focus/auto flash but I want to make sure that I get the best pictures that I can on this trip. I don't expect to become a professional photographer, but I hope to record these memories the best I can. One of these days, I am going to find the time to take some classes and really try to learn how to be better, but right now, I'd settle for a great trip!

Thanks!
