A friend and I will be going to WDW in October and are considering renting a vehicle one day for an off-site trip. The problem is that we will both be in ECVs, plus her husband (not in an ECV) will be with us. I don't think we could get two ECVs in the trunk of a car, could we? Would an SUV or mini-van have enough room? I take it as given that they will need to be disassembled.

I got my friend's power chair and my own ECV into the back of my Toyota Scion (back seat removed) without having to disassemble the ECV, if that helps you to imagine the space required... I also have a hoist mounted in the back so that took up a little room, as well...;)

Several years ago I was involved in a situation where we were traveling with another family and in addition to my need for an ECV one of the members of the other family had broken her ankle ten days earlier and also needed an ECV. I checke dout everything available, up to and including Cadillac sedans. We needed something that could handle six adults and teenagers. There was nothing available, and the SUVs we saw couod only handle five people and it woulkd have been a tight fit for two ECVs.

One thing you may want to do is consider what your off-site trip will be. Mear's, which runs most of the taxis, has about 20 accessible cabs and only charges the normal taxi fares. The taxi fares, other than the first mile ($3.85) run $2.20 per mile.

I would think 3 people and 2 ECVs would fit in a minivan with the rear seat folded down. We had 7 people and and 1 ECV in our minivan in June without issue. Keep in mind though that those ECVs can be quite heavy to lift, especially the batteries.

We lucked into a solution on a recent trip to Tennessee. We do not travel with an ECV, but with three heavy wheelchairs. We tried to rent a van, but none were available over the weekend of July 4th. The rental company just happened to have a pickup truck on the lot which held six passengers. We put the wheelchairs in the back and covered them with a tarp and a couple of rachet straps on days rain threatened. Worked like a charm for our stay. We had never thought about a truck before, but will in the future. I don't know how available trucks are at rental companies, but worth looking into. We just had to remember to carry our hang tag with us (and remove it when we turned the truck in).
