Rental pick-up/drop-off differs?

We will be splitting our vacation with a few days in Daytona Beach. We need a rental car for that portion of the trip only, but are wondering if it makes sense to only get the rental for that portion, rather than pay for extra days when it'll just sit at our resort parking lot. We have NOT yet determined if we'll do the beach days first, or the Disney days first, so I have a few options I'm considering:

1. Pick up a car at Orlando Airport, drive to the beach for a few days, then return the car to a location on WDW property and just use Disney transportation for the rest of the trip (4-5 days) including ME to return to the airport when we depart.
Q: If we did this, are their "one-way" fees for this different pick-up/drop-off rental, and would we even save anything?

2. Switching the order of things, we could arrive at Orlando Airport, use ME to get to Disney, stay the 4--5 days there, then pick up a rental on property somewhere, go to the beach and then return the car at Orlando Airport when we depart.
Q: Again, are there one-way fees? Would this save anything?

3. If we did either of these options, what companies/locations on Disney property would you guys recommend, and why?

4. I'm sure I'm not the first person to look into this... has anyone researched these options, and what did you end up doing?

Add'l info:
This will be late October, likely staying 4 nights at Pop Century, only looking for a compact or economy class car. We will use Disney transportation (buses) during our stay regardless. No interest in driving to parks. We do this split-stay every year, but usually just park the car at the resort. Wondering for the first time, if these options would save any $.

thanks:scratchin in advance, sorry for all the wordy details!

They don't have one way fees, they may have more expensive rates for a one way rental. On a 5 day rental: it is usually considered a weekly rental. So, you probably would be better off keeping it for your entire stay. you would have to do the research to figure out if your plan(s) are cost effective.

I don't think picking up in one location and dropping off in another within FL is a one way rental. Whenever I've looked at doing this, there's no extra charge. There may be a difference in the rate. Now if I'm looking at picking up in my home state (KY) and dropping off in FL (just flying home) then they tack on a one way charge, usually around $300+ dollars. It'll list in the breakdown of charges before you book if there's a one way charge.

It is a one way rental if you pickup at one place and drop at another. They do tack on a one way fee if you (for instance) pick up in Miami and drop in Orlando. It usually depends on the type of vehicle. It seems that they don't do it within the greater Orlando area (I cannot speak for other areas of the US).
