I spoke to the operator at riverside last weekend with some questions about the h/c rooms there. When they told me that the h/c rooms only have king sized beds, Grama said not to worry, we could us a regular room on the first floor or with elevator access (renting ECV).

My question is: does WDW rent or loan out equipment to help h/c people? To be blunt, gram (has Parkinson's & had a hip replacement in 2001, is age 78) has one of those "extensions" on her toliet at home soe the seat is up higher & easier to get off of. She also has a railing to help her get into the tub for a shower. My step-nana has some kind of seat/railing thing that goes over the edge of her tub to help her get in it without falling (SHE has ostoporosis). Does anyone know if I can obtain these type of items from WDW to use while we are staying there?

Thanks for your help!:D

Speak to the special needs people when you make the reservation and they will tell you what can be provided.
Regular rooms don't have the proper railings for safety that I remember. You can get a tub bench provided. That I do know as I have needed one in the past.

Here's the phone number for WDW Resort Special Reservations:
(407) 939-7807
(407) 939-7670 [TTY]
That's the special needs that Lisa mentioned. You would be able to get some equipment, but, as Lisa said, some of the other things, like grab bars in the bathroom are either in the room or not. Special Reservations can answer all your questions about rooms and arrange for what you need.

Doombuggy,

Disney will be able to supply simple things like booster rings for the WC or boards to go under the mattress. Walkers (the same people who hire out the ECVs, can olso rent out other medical equipment like hoists and commode wheelchairs if you need them.

Thanks for your help! I got zero info from the resort last week. they told me that att h/c rooms have king beds, but I see some people have posted taht this is incorrect. Grama wants her own bed (she's a roller, she said) and said she could do without the other stuff if necessary. I would rather have a regular room with 2 beds in a quieter area if I can borrow or rent some equipment. Thanks so much for the tips!:D
