Rental cars keys - a question/a warning

TSA told the rental companies the nation would be more secure.

Has anyone "clipped" the wire? What did the company say?

I clipped the wire last year and it wasn't easy to do. If you give me two keys, then I want to keep them seperated. Since I returned the car in the Airport garage, the rental guy never said a word and I didn't get charged for seperating them.

I used to work for Budget and we paired up the keys as well. When we would turn back the cars to the manufacturers we were required to have two keys or we were charged a penalty fee. so by keeping them together, they were easier to keep track of.
That was pretty much what I was told by Avis last year because I was curious why I was handed a keyring with like 4 keys on it. I noticed when we rented from Alamo in our local airport in January there was a notice on the plastic tag about a fee for losing the keys.

If I can get my hands on a pair of clippers I take it apart and put all the extra keys and fobs in the center console or ashtray. I rent every week for work and it is one of my major pet peeves.

check out this one set I received.

Thats what I'm talking about.

What a mess ,I have to travel for business in April and then to WDW in July I might start packing my small cutters and a few extra key rings to replace what I cut off.

Also, look around where the spare tire is, 'sometimes' with the manual, but usually with the spare tire, lots of times there is a 2nd remote there...
