If I rent a car in NYC and want to return it in Orlando, will it be more expensive than returning in NYC?

Yes, you will most likely have a hefty "drop fee". Couldn't guess what it might be, though. You'll have to call the rental company.

Probably a drop-off fee. Plus it is a rather long drive, I would think about 20 hours straight through.

agnes!

I think it also depends on the rental company. Just call or go online and see what the differences would be. I would also check and see if there are any internet specials.

Yes, there will be a drop-off fee. We rented one in Boston and returned it in NH, and paid an extra $35.

Thanks guys. I´ll look into it. We´d love to do the drive since we have 3 weeks or more to spend on the holiday. No one in my family has been to NYC except me so we were hoping to be able to spend 4 days there and then maybe a couple of days in Washington DC (since I´m also the only one in the family who has been there).

A quick check at Expedia.com for some random dates in May showed around $650 to rent a mid-size car in New York and return it to Orlando 1 week later.

I'm sure if you look around for deals, you could get it lower than that. Make sure you look at the total price for anything you look at because it looks like different companies do it differently.
For instance, for the search I did, Budget shows a rate of $71 per day with a total price of $650. Dollar shows a much lower daily rate of $43 per day, but has a total price of $872. So it looks like some companies raise the daily rate for one-way rentals, while other companies keep the same rate, but add on drop-off fees or one-way fees.

Thanks so much for checking!

You should stop in Baltimore Maryland and hit the science center and the aquarium. They are amazing and about a half an hour outside of D.C. Downtown is awesome and depending on when you are going to around maybe you could catch a baltimore o's game or a Ravens Football game! Just thought I would make a few suggestions since you will be so close!
