Ok, now that our flight is not until the afternoon we are thinking of bagging the town car idea and renting a car so we can do something instead of sitting in the airport. Any guidance on rental cars would be appreciated. Especially who is close to the port, has a shuttle etc. Anyone know of any codes or sales? Thanks Ann

How late in the afternoon? Remember you probably won't be off the ship until midmorning, have a drive to the airport, and now need to be there two hours early. You may have less waiting time than you think.

No answer but another question...If we rent from National do they have a shuttle to take you from their drop off site near the port to the DCL terminal or one of the local hotels? We're staying at the Dolphin prior to the cruise and we're thinking about taking a rental car to the Kennedy Space Center then to the port.

Our flight is not until 2:20. On our last two cruises we were off the ship by 8am and at the airport (using disney transport) by 10am. I figured if we got off at 8am we could go over to kennedy space center for a few hours, that is better than sitting in the airport for four hours, or somewhere around orlando.
Another rental car question is - do they charge the same rate for overnight as they do for just a day? (ie: do we rent the car the night before when we fly in and then drive to the port in the morning or do we rent it in the morning?IF the price is the same we may as well rent in when we get in.)

AnnMorin, rental cars are charged by the 24-hour period rather than by calendar days. So if you picked up a car at 10am, you wouldn't be paying for a second day unless you kept it beyond 10am the next day.

We used Avis. They are located at the Raddison Hotel and have a shuttle that picks you up at the Port...

I'm pretty sure Avis at Radisson is the closest major car rental company. National is quite far. Also, National doesn't provide a shuttle. They'll give you a voucher for taxi. The problem with that is you may have to wait a long time for the taxi to arrive, especially on cruise departure & arrival days. There was a thread on this a week ago or so. A DIS'er was complaining that they had to wait a looooong time for a taxi, both coming and going.

We have always relied on Avis. I would highly recommend it.
