Ok We are looking to book a rental car maybe for one day or for the whole week depending on prices. Here is our scenario....

We are flying in Saturday night and would be willing to take DME but would like to have the flexibilty of a rental car for Sunday to pick up groceries and spend the afternoon driving around.

True or False-- Rental cars are cheaper on the weekends.

True or False-- All rental car companies charge the extra $30 a day if the driver is under 25. (grrrrrr I am will be 24 and have full coverage insurance!) Any tips to get around this...... (wishful thinking!)

Should I just get a rental car from the travel center in Disney or from Downtown Disney. We are staying in POFQ.

We want a convertable. Do they have them at the Disney rental place (I can't remember what it's called!)

Sometimes you can get a better deal for a week. Under 25 and a convertable will be $$$. You can use your own insurance instead of theirs. Just make sure your company will cover everything that you need.  party: party:

Yes usually car are cheaper starting on Thurs. or Fri till Monday morning. Most agencies will charge anywhere from $20-30 extra for underage drivers.

Chances are that you won't be able to rent a convertible if you are under 25. You will most likely have to pay $25/day extra for the rental.

I rented a car just days before my 25th birthday and I was still subject to the underage driver fee! Rules are rules :p Good luck!

SHOP. I think Enterprise and EZ-Rental have lower surcharges for underage drivers. Do you work for a large company? Some corporate rates are available for leisure rentals and have reduced or even no underage surcharge. SHOP sometimes those rates are higher than the discounted rates we book.

I'm 21 and we used Eagle rent-a-car on our trip down a year ago and I would highly recommend them. It was an extra $10 or $15/day, but they're one of the few that will actually RENT a car. The others are E-Z and L&M. They may sound like noname companies, but they are reputable and based in Orlando. An extra $15/day sounds like a lot, but their prices are much lower than Enterprise and the others, so it nearly evened out.

I've seen codes for National (located at the WDW Car Care Center) that waive the under 25 fee of $25. Now - I don't know much about these codes so I would definitely call National and see what they have to say, but I did try the two I have and the section where you have to list if you are under 25 did disappear so they seem to work...

Here they are: 5000491 and 5710540.

I found these at: http://www.travelsuperlink.com/national

They appear to be college codes (Ohio State and Southren Indiana University) but the site doesn't tell you if you need to have ID from those schools or what. That is why you might want to call if you think you want to try either of those codes.

Best of luck...

I have no idea if this code is only available to employees of those colleges, is also available to students of those colleges or if National doesn't care who uses the code.

I'd have a "backup plan" if the National employee disallows use of the code and decides to charge you the underage fee. I don't think a favorable answer over the telephone will do you much good if you're told something different when you go to get the car.

Thanks for your post - you got me thinking...
I went to both Ohio State and Southren Illinois University websites and found that the codes will require ID and are applicable to employees (past and present), and grad students. National will check, especially since these codes also include the Loss Damage Waiver for free.

So - DON'T USE THE CODES ABOVE!

Yes-
I am getting married October 21. I think that DF picked the date because my birthday is Oct 26 and it will be easy to remember the 2 events!!!

Yes-
I do work for a big company (Wells Fargo) I will have to check for discounts tomorrow at work. Unless someone else knows if the company has a discount(I am sure they do) .....

Thanks for the Alamo quotes I think it would be easiest to pick up a car at MCO and drop it off at the car center on Sunday.

My DH and I picked the date because my mom's birthday was on Oct. 27 (she passed away before we got married). It is very special to me to have an anniversary so close to her birthday! I wanted to time my kids and try to have one around that day too (Oct is also my fav month of the year!), but it never worked out..DS was a surprise and DD was after a year of trying...maybe #3...

Hope you have a beautiful wedding! Our day was perfect - not too hot and not too cold. We live in WI so it could have been iffy...

:groom: :bride: CONGRATULATIONS! :groom: :bride:

we were in Hawaii 2 years ago and the package included a rental car.

DS was 22 at the time but a police officer and I even questioned with his line of work if the underage fee could be wavied

no go!!!

I thought gee he runs around the city (Milwaukee)

knows general traffic laws probably better then the rental place!!!

and still no go

they said that if he was there on business

yeah--why would they have a cop from Milwaukee go to Maui on business :confused3

DD and her DBF rented a convertable and they paid I think around $300

and that included the underage fee and 2 drivers for 5 days
