Rental Car Newbee ... Please help!

First time ever renting a car. Staying at BCV Aug 23-30, so looking to pick up and drop off at Dolphin. Really only need a car for a few days mid trip. With a visa code I can get a compact for 84.57 from Alamo or 93.33 from National. Just wondering if this is the best I can do. Should I wait until we are under the 30 day mark (in a few days)? What are the cancellation policies like? Just give me any info you think I should know! Also, when it says on the website "or similar" what kind of cars have you ended up with? TIA

Hey! I recommend you book a car using the best deal you can get with coupon codes and corporate ID's (see Mousesavers). Then keep checking back every few days. If you see a better deal, book it then cancel your older one. Rates change quickly, and can even vary based on the time you pickup and return the car, so play with that too.

How many days is that rate for?

Unless it is a special prepaid rate, rental cars can be cancelled without a fee. There have been many times that I cancelled a car at least 5 times as the rates went down.

The rates I found are for Aug 27-30 (doing a 9 am pick up and drop off). I plugged in some different times (thanks for the suggestion WeLuvTink!) and saved even more ... I am shocked! We still have a 9am pick up on the 27 but are doing an 11:30 pm drop off on the 29. It's still a three day rental period but it's only costing 66.46 including all fees!
