I'm looking for a mid-size car for 8 nights. Hotwire I can get $214 after fees. Anything else I should try? I have never done priceline, but my friend who did said it's not risky if you do it for a car. Anyone done PL for LAX? How did you do? I haven't rented a car in a long time.

Thanks!

We booked directly with the rental car companies through Costcotravel.com. We have used Priceline with LAX in the past with no problem five years ago. We are actually renting cars one day each way to get us to and from the airport cheaper than van service about $45/day for a full size from Orange County. We are using Budget from the airport and Alamo back to the airport. They both have offices near DL. If you don't need the car the rest of the time you might be able to save a few $$.

This way we don't need to pay parking at the hotel for every night and can do some grocery shopping when we arrive.

I just rented a fullsize through hotwire 8/27 -9/3 for $220 total. Turned out to be through hertz which is great. I tried pl as I have had good luck in th epast but all my reasonable offers were rejected. I stopped at 16/day as hotwire was less after fees. (Off season I have had good luck getting a standard suv for as low as $15/day.) I tried allother discount sites and coupons and could not beat the hotwire pric efor the same days. One of my fav ways is to book with my american express online at AMEX site (google it). They do not charge up front, cancel at any time and have been considerably less in the past. Not this week though! Good luck!

When using Priceline, you can use the Bidding For Travel web-site to find out other people's successful bids.

(You can find the web-site by googling: Bidding For Travel)

At the Bidding For Travel web-site, scroll down to "Rental Cars" and click on "Los Angeles."

From my limited experience, sometimes Priceline offers better car rental prices as you get closer to the rental date (about 2 or 3 weeks before).

Another web-site to check is http://carrentalsavers.com.

We always go directly through the rental car company. In this case, we just got Thrifty at LAX for 8 nights for $228 (total, including all fees) on a "wild car" deal. We've done this before - they guarantee you midsize OR larger. In the past, that's resulted in an SUV for us. And the worst that can happen is that we'll actually get a midsize, which we haven't yet!
