We are thinking of getting a rental car for one day of our vacation. does anyone have any experience with this and what is the best way to go. Isn't there a rental car place at Disney? Any help, information or discount information would be appreciated. We are going August 18-23 and would be getting the car on the 22nd.

Thanks!! :cool1:

I'm pretty sure there is a rental place at the Swan and Dolphin. Not really Disney but close enough.

We haven't done this before, but if we ever need to rent a car for one day we would go to the Dolphin Resort (right by the Beach Club Resort). If you are staying on Disney property you can take a bus over to MGM and then take the boat to the Dolphin.

I am sure others can be more help with this than I am, but that is what we plan to do if we ever decide to get a car for just one day. Before Magical Express we just rented a car for the whole week, but now that they have ME, we may get a car just for a day.

I believe it is National and Alamo that are in the Dolphin, but again, I am sure others will be more help than I am about this.

Good Luck,
DJ

OK, here is a link to a thread that I saved that talks about renting a car at the Dolphin.

The Dolphin, Swan, Boardwalk, and Beach Club resorts are all right together and within walking distance to each other. If you are coming from another resort, MGM would be the best bus to take over because there is a boat that takes guests to those resorts near the entrance of MGM. If you are at a park where there are buses to the resort, just take the one to the Dolphin.

there are a number of ways to rent cars on wdw property... first is the car care center... you simply reserve the car thru alamo or national, call the car care center from your resort, tell them what time your car is reserved for and they will send a shuttle to pick you up and take you to the ccc to get your rental... same in reverse when returning it (but they have limited hours)...

you can also rent thru alamo or national at the dolphin (not the swan, just the dolphin)... basically, same thing w/out the shuttle to/from... call the rental company and reserve your car or do it online... arrive at the dolphin (using wdw transport from a park or a taxi) and go inside to the rental car desk and get your paperwork, go out to the valet and voila! a rental car! the upside of returning to the dolphin is that the valet can and will accept the return 24/7! again, use wdw transport to get where you're going or the valet will call you a taxi to take you wherever you want to go...

last but not least, there are other rental car companies available at the downtown disney hotels... i'm not sure which ones are where but they're there!

for coupon, code, money saving, etc info check out the car rental pages on www.mousesavers.com :)

You can rent by the day.. we've done that in the past.

We usually do Dolphin location. There are a couple of discount codes out there floating around. However, sometimes it is only a couple of dollars more for 2 days vs. 1. When I looked up a rate w/ a Bjs code for :
1 day was $50, 2 days was $53, 3 days $57,

The best way to get a good price through National for a 1 day rental is to sign up for their rewards program - Emerald Rewards (I think that's the name). It was free when I signed up, and it changed the price of my 1 day rental from around $50 to $36. You just have to put in your Emerald # when you book online through National.

This Am I went to sign up for this, but they wanted a credit card number and didnt' know if they took this for a "pre-pay" or if you could still cancel at no charge?? :confused3

National keeps your credit card on file so that when you go to pick up the car, you just walk the "Emerald Aisle" and don't have to wait in any lines (more of a benefit at the airports vs. Dolphin). This means that you just walk up to your car at the airport, and drive away. National does not pre-charge the rental, but charges when you drop off like most companies. I've been using National with the Emerald program for a couple years now, and no cc problems.

Thank you very much for your help. I signed up, but it didn't change my rate at all.

This is exactly the information I was looking for. I have a question, can I pick up at the airport and return at the Dolphin or the Car Care Center for no additional charge?

We used National last year one-way and they didn't charge us a fee, but some do. Make sure to ask first!!
