Rental car companies to be avoided?

Are there any rental car companies operating at or near MCO that should be avoided, either because of inconvenience, service night mares or otherwise?

I do not use Alamo anymore. One bad experience at Orlando and an awful experience in Tampa (3 broken down cars in one trip).

I've also never used Avis, but just because I can never get a decent price from them.

I mostly use Budget and Dollar at Orlando now.

Used L&M once without any problems though.

Because we use Priceline, which means we get whoever Bill Shatner feels like giving us, we've done National, Alamo, Avis, and Budget onsite, and also Hertz. And when we can't get Priceline, we do Thrifty. There is no one I would specifically avoid, but Alamo does tend to have the longest lines and the hardest insurance push. But I don't mind them if the price is right.

I've rented numerous cars from numerous companies, generally without problem or concern. My one really negative experience was with Alamo. I realize that everyone deserves a second chance, but I haven't tried them a second time yet.

Now you why they are the cheapest... Lack of customer service drives down the prices.. Alamo's lack of service is lengendary!!!!

If you want poor service, lousy attitudes and poor cars with the poorest customer service, overcharges that they will not remove, (Discover card did remove the fraudulet charges) then choose Alamo.....

Same here! I have ressies with Alamo and National. Right now Alamo is $15 cheaper - but it sounds like I'm better off paying the extra $15 and using National.

Poooh! I booked Alamo too! REALLY good deal too! But, I'm REALLY good about declining insurance. I can be very persuasive myself!

we've rented from Alamo several times and always had great service. We've had problems with Budget about 50% of the time. They send us a letter stating their was MAJOR damage done to the car we rented, however it was not noticed until about 3 weeks after we returned the car. They state that there is several thousand dollars of damage. We have always sent a letter back stating that there was no damage to the car and never hear from them again.

This is one reason I rent using the Diners Club card. I have never been notified of any damage, but if I was my response would be take it up with them. Nothing like two giants squaring off.

I was just at Epinions.com and it seems Thrifty is one to stay away from. Many people said their 'low price' was a bait and switch sceme. Seems they have a 'habit' of loosing reservations and then charging a much higher price...$200 more in the case of one family.

I used Alamo last year and didn't have a bit of trouble. Quick in and quick out. I had reserved an econobox and they upgraded me to a compact, no charge. I would go through them again if their rates were cheaper.
