Rental car at LAX?

We're making our first trip to California this summer and will be flying in to LAX. How do the car rental companies work there? Are they at the airport or do you need to take a shuttle to somewhere offsite? I'd prefer an onsite rental if possible. It also needs to be a company that will let me pick up at LAX and drop off in Vegas because that's where we'll be flying home from. Any advice would be appreciated.

None of the rental companies are inside the airport. You have to take a shuttle to the rental car company. The shuttles come about every 10-15 min depending on traffic. I used dollar last time in LA had no problems and for a 8 day intermediate rental it cost 89 with all taxes.

I figured the rates I was getting quoted for mid-August would come down as time went on, but $89 including all taxes? That would make my day!

Any problems with Hertz at LAX? I did some searching and their rates are actually about the same as the others through a Marriott Rewards special plus I'll get double Marriott points for the charges which makes it an even better deal for me.

I don't know of any problems with the car rentals at LAX. The competition is pretty high since they are practically right next to each other. I don't think you'll have any problem, especially with the big names.

There is an island that you go to after you collect your luggage, and there are signs indicating where you should stand for various shuttles. If you are still unsure, there are people who work there that will help you out.

Thanks. I think I'll go ahead and book with Hertz. I usually search for the budget rates but it looks like prices are all pretty similar for this trip. And its worth paying a couple of extra dollars to get the double Marriott points.
