I thought I posted this Sunday and can't find it so trying again!

My in-laws are coming on their FIRST Disney trip with us this October. They are arriving 2 days earlier than us to see some friends/relatives in Florida. They are going to get a rental car for Friday - Sunday and then want to return it and just use Disney trans while on property.

Is it the easiest just to have them get a taxi back to the airport when they leave? A shuttle sounds like a big pain and I don't know what one way runs price wise.

Also, I was thinking of them renting from National since they could return the car on property.

Are we thinking this through correctly?

Thanks for any advice from the "been there/done that's"

Annette

You've got several things to consider:

If they turn-in the rental car it will cost ~$50 for them to get to the airport either by cab, limo or shuttle. And how will you get to the airport?

The price for rental cars in FL is pretty low and you might find that the price for a full week isn't much more than for just a couple of days in the rental car.

Having a car at WDW can be a plus, especially if you want to go off-property for some meals or shopping at non-Disney prices.

As you might have quessed by now, it might be better just to keep the car for the whole trip just for the flexibility and freedom it gives you.

OTOH, Arranging for a shuttle isn't a lot of work, it only takes one phone call. Same for a Limo. The hotel can call a cab for you.

In Florida, it doesn't cost extra to return a rental car to a different location than you picked it up from. If National wants too much for the rental, there are several agencies that have locations in the Downtown Disney Hotels.

Assuming you are staying on site, your parents can catch a bus back to the resort from DD. (Or they can take the DD Hotel shuttle to one of the parks and transfer to the resort bus from there). This will be a lot less expensive and more convenient than a taxi or shuttle from the airport. Should also consume a lot less time.

Best wishes -

My immediate family will have a car the whole time we are there - I got a quote of about 71.00 to have the in-laws pickup the car at the airport and return it on Disney Property. The cheapest for a week is 186.00 so they definitely would save in the rental department.

So are you saying a cab would run about $50.00 from Disney Property back to the airport? Anybody know the cost of a one way shuttle?

Thanks for all your help everyone,
Annette
