Hi I posted this on the community board too, but this site looks more geared to FW things. On this site I clicked on a website that rents 5th wheel campers for $135 plus the campsite rental. Curious to know if anyone has used them and how do they compare to the FW cabins such as size, cost savings? We would have about 7 people and they say they sleep up to 9. Thanks for any input.

thanks that was a good thread. However, like some posters said there is probably a discount on the cabins so I am thinking with the discount they might be simiilar price. Mostly I would like to know if they are larger, nicer, actually sleep more people than the cabins. They probably would be less than the cabins and they don't charge for extra people. Are they reliable? Anyone have any experience with them. Are the camping loops nicer than where the cabins are. We have only stayed in the cabins and of course we liked them . Can you also put an extra tent on the site for maybe 2 people.?

I'll answer a couple of these, but since I have never rented from CampAtTheFort personally I'll leave those endorsements for others. The cabins are 504 sq ft, which is certainly larger than the 5th wheel. But, the cabins are built like houses and the 5th wheel is built like an RV -- which is to say space usage is maximized! I think all the camping loops are in a better location than any of the cabin loops, unless walking to the Outpost Depot bus stop is a high priority. I'm also sure that discounts are still available on the cabins, but if you find out what discount you qualify for there is a place to enter it in my rate calculator and then compare the cabins to renting the 5th wheel in each classification of loop. Also, if you go with the rental then yes, you can pitch a tent on your site for extra room... you cannot do that at the cabins. Hope this helps.

:santa:

Thank you, those were the answers I need, exept if anyone rented from them and if they had a good experience.

How many adults and how many kids? That will really make a difference while staying in the camper.

I personally would rent from campatthefort in a heartbeat! The cabins may be nice, but I like being in the middle of everything, and the cabins seem a little out of the way for me. Tina has a very nice camper, and it is already set up for you. I have heard from lots of people who have used it, and they are were quite pleased.

I'm sure Tina would be happy to give you some references if you would like, and look at her website, she has many nice pictures of the 5er there.

If you have never camped before, this is an awesome way to check it out with out the huge investment of buying one. Also, I think once you do it, you will be hooked for life.

thanks for the replies, i really appreciate it. Tina, there would be 6 adults possibly 8 and my granddaughter who is 6. Would have to rent 2 cabins ,or probably 2 trailers . I know when we rented the cabins 3 times, it seemed like we were on the outskirts of FW. Years ago we drove my moms small RV down and we had a beautiful camping spot close to the main outposts and we loved it. Glad to know that this may be an option. Do they have more than one 5th wheeler?

You could rent the 5th wheel from Tina at campinggatthefort and then rent a pop-up from Donnie at campingmadeeasy, request connecting sites and there you have it. Not only will you save boat loads of money but you will have a true camping experience.:thumbsup2

Great idea. :thumbsup2

Thanks. I went to the pop up website but it was $85 dollars a day. The 5th wheel is $135 a day, so the pop up doesn't seem like that much of a deal unless it could be kept on the same campsite. I thought maybe there were more than 1 5th wheel to rent. Maybe I am missing something? Can it be on the same campsite?

The pop up is more for a smaller budget family that wants to be on a partial site which costs less money. I designed it for people who are getting into camping at the entry level as well so they can see what it's like before buying.

I've seen pop ups on the same site before but it's not allowed. Heck last month we saw a 5th wheel with a Class C in front of it. I would never try the 2 campers to a site especially in busy season and no sites were available.

I guess I could take the axle off and have a glorified tent lol.

I did not rent from them but my brother and his family did while we camped in our trailer in the next campsite. It is a nice trailer and can sleep a lot of people but the 2 top bunks are only really good for kids. Also with a lot of people it will be very tight. If you can help it, you dont really want to use the dinnette as a bed. They had 6 (5 adults and 1 child). I stayed with them the last two nights after my family headed home. I flew home with my brothers family. However, with that said, it was a very nice trailer, and they were wonderful! The four bikes they include were forgotten and they came back and brought them to the campsite. They also had some problems with the electric blowing fuses, however i beleive it was Fort Wilderness and not the trailer. Otherwise, it was great and I would rent from them in the future.

Thanks for the info. Donnie, if I rented a 5th wheel and a pop up would I have to have a premium spot for both since I would request them together if possible? Just wondering.

What is the web address for your pop up site Donnie?

My family has stayed in both the cabins and Tina's 5th wheel. Last October we had the pleasure of staying 4 days in the 5th wheel. We were in FW around Halloween and the experience of being in the camping loops was great. Our site was in the 100 loop..a great location and the weather was unbelievable. We had a wonderful time with the "camping" experience and enjoyed some great family time. The 5th wheel was exceptional and I wouldn't hesitate staying in it again.
This past January we took advantage of the buy 4 get 3 free and stayed in the cabins. I loved the cabins as well! It was a bit separated from the rest of the campground but we had brought our golfcart with us so that helped. They are both great options and you will have a blast wherever you stay. Have a great time planning and feel free to send me a PM with specific questions:thumbsup2

I think we saw you MLK weekend. Red cart? We were in 1100 loop and our friends were in the cabin loop behind us. They're from Charleston as well.

Unless Tinah has a problem with placing her 5Ver in a smaller site, you could get Full Hookup sites for both of the units. That would help on the cost.

Another thing you could do is Loop 1500 (Partial Hookup) and Loop 1600 (Full Hookup) backup to each other. There are about 4 or 5 sites in those loops that are all but neighbors to each other with a comfort station right there.
