I had the opportunity to go see the RENT Broadway Tour last night at the Fox theatre in St. Louis. Adam Pascal (Roger) and Anthony Rapp (Mark) were in it. For those unfamiliar with the show, Adam and Mark were part of the original cast and were in the movie version. Afterwards my friend and I were able to get their autographs! :woohoo:

They were both incredibly nice, chatting with the fans. The entire cast was wonderful. Maureen was a little shocking because she had blonde hair (later found out she was a swing, not the normal person for that performance) but she was great! Angel totally cracked me up, he nailed the part. Anthony Rapp looked like he was having a wonderful time and hammed it up. We were laughing so hard at some of the little things he threw in. Adam was a little nasal in his head voice (probably the midwest did not agree with him), but his voice was still incredibly powerful. During "Goodbye Love" it literally sounded like he was crying, he was putting so much emotion into it.

If you have a chance to see the show while it's on tour- go! You will not regret it at all! I will say that I have never been to that part of St. Louis before and I was disappointed to see how rundown the area around the Fox was- lots of boarded up/falling down buildings. It was such a beautiful theatre, but the area directly around it that you have to drive through to get to the highway was rather frightening.

I love that musical! You are so lucky that you saw two "originals", and got to meet with them after the show. I saw a touring company in New Orleans a few years ago. Excellent.

I'm actually listening to Rent in my car right now! I never had the chance to see it on Broadway but bought the DVD of the show as soon as it was released a few months ago.

I love Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal! I saw Adam Pascal in Aida in 2001. He was amazing!

We saw it last month when it came through Dallas. I agree, Adam is having some voice issues, seemed to be trying to hit things that he can't quite get to anymore, but Anthony was spot on perfect. Love him!!!!

He was able to hit everything just fine, but a little nasal. It's prime allergy season out here, you can literally see the pollen blowing around! I'm a singer and he sounds exactly like I do when I'm stuffed up from my allergies and trying to use my head voice. That was also the last show of a 5 night run, and they did two shows the last three days of the run (matinee and evening show!) I can only imagine the strain on their voices after that many shows in a short time. He still had an amazingly powerful voice thought. Loved it!

These pics were taken at the stage door while they signed autographs:

Maureen (when we got over the fact that she was blonde, she was totally awesome!)

It was such an amazing show, and only the fourth Broadway show I've seen. IT's at least a 2.5 hour drive to the nearest venue so I don't ever get to go (this was for my friend's birthday). I had never seen it on Broadway before. Only the movie and the taping of the last show. The only thing I didn't like was the song Contact. I'm still not entirely sure why that was in there and can't get over the fact that although some of these people have AIDS they are engaging in this huge orgy thing. It was weird. :confused3

I was telling my boyfriend about last night and at one point I asked him if he was familiar with Rent. This is the synopsis he gave me:

4 artists trying to survive and pay the rent on their place in their own, slovenly ways.

I had to quickly re-educate him about the show. One of these days I am going ot have to sit him down and show him either the movie or the last performance (or both). I'm thinking the movie might be better since it isn't as graphic as the show, kind of warm him up to it. :rotfl:

OMG i LOVE Rent...i saw it on Broadway when it first opened with the original cast, then saw it again a few years later. Then this past Feb i saw the tour with Adam and Anthony. One song, Glory...ahh my favorite..Adams voice is awesome!

My girls and I saw it in Dallas too!! :thumbsup2

You're lucky....we only got to see Maureen after the show. That was the same Maureen we saw in Dallas. I was freaked out by the blond hair for a minute but she was great.

I bought the movie on DVD when it came out and I have the cd with the music but I can imagine how wonderful it must be live!

Now I'm going to have to go home and upload some of the music to my MP3!:)

Love Rent...my favorite show ever. I got to see it on Broadway with Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal. Amazing.

I love Rent, I saw it on Broadway a few times because they do a lottery before the shows for $20 tickets. I saw it once with Joey Fatone from NSYNC because I was such an NSYNC fan when I was a kid, I had to see it. It's a great show.

I'll even admit that my friend came over once, and we were a little nuts, so I decided to dress up as Mimi. I put on purple scrub pants, mini skirt, knee high boots, red tank top, and of course, bright blue eyeshadow. I looked like somebody in drag, but it was fun. Yes there's a picture, no I'm not showing anybody.

I rented the movie on dvd soon after it came it came to dvd. I was so excited to finally be able to see it since I haven't been able to see the show.

I was truly disappointed in it. I LOVE musicals. But this one I truly did not like at all. I think it's because of the fact that it's fairly graphic.
Not something I like to see in a musical. But that's me.

I hated the movie...really really hated it...but was absolutely blown away by seeing it live on stage.

Anthony and Adam are fantastic. I've saw them both in the show several times in 1996 and 1997. Anthony's passion for the show is still as strong as it was back when the show first came out. I haven't seen Anthony in a few years, but saw Adam perform a set of Broadway songs last fall. He sounded fantastic. Adam always seemed to struggle a bit with keeping the voice fresh on an eight show a week schedule.

I don't think it's fair that they haven't aged in 13 years, and I have though ;)

I've seen "Rent" 46 times over the years, and plan on seeing it again when it comes to Boston in July.

yeah, Contact is a little weird, but it serves its purpose as a scene change. i think it's supposed to be the couples individually, and then they all break up at the end. ("It's over!" "It's over!" Collins: "It's...over." ughhhh so heartwrenching!!) That's why everyone's so mad at each other at the funeral.

i am so obsessed with the show, i'm so jealous you saw it with the original boys! i got to interview Anthony last year on the phone, it was incredible to be able to chat with him!

That's great, EB! I love Rent, too. I've seen it 3 times on Broadway, the last time with Anthony and Adam. They looked like they were having so much fun. My whole family is a Rent family as we've taken each of our teens once they were old enough to go. My local community theater group is doing Rent this summer-we were so excited to get the rights. The turnout for the audition was incredible-I can't wait to see it performed locally.:lovestruc I tried out just for fun but knew I wouldn't make it-I'm too old :rotfl:. I tried out for Mark's mom-she has the best lines..."Your mother!"

We saw the current production over spring break in Phoenix and loved it so much that we saw it again when it hit Dallas. The guy who plays Collins in this production has the best voice ever..."We'll open up a restaurant in Santa Fe..." It's been a month and I can't get hs voice out of my head.

My nephew and I saw it in February in Charlotte. We had fantastic seats and I was in awe the whole time. The whole cast was amazing and we just loved the girl playing Mimi. (I still think that the last Mimi on Broadway was THE best one). Seeing Adam and Anthony after seeing the movie was so exciting. Tom Collins was also the same one from the last night of Rent on Broadway, along with the soloist in 525,600 minutes......so we saw 4 originals as far as I am concerned. I Tivod the last night's show after seeing the road tour and watch it like once a week. My kids come in and say.....are you watching that again????????? I can't get enough of it. It's coming to Boston in July and I just may visit my friends in CT and drive over. We are also going to see it in Tampa too. I am also a crazy person for Adam Pascal....:worship:....his voice is absolutely stunning.

I love Rent!

I've seen it 6 times, including on Broadway when Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp first reprised their roles 2 years ago. That was an amazing experience!

I usually try to see it every time it comes to Boston or Providence. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to make it to the shows in Boston in July - I'm due with our first baby 3 days before the run starts. That was one of the first things I realized when I found out my due date! :rotfl:
