Rent/Transfer Points restrictions

Are there any restrictions on renting or transfering points?

Can I rent or transfer banked points?

Banked (and borrowed) points cannot be transferred. Your options are to use them for the World Passport Collection or to make a reservation in your name or for someone else.

If you will not be able to use the banked points before the end of your Use Year you can offer to make a reservation for someone else on the DVC Rent/Trade Board. be sure to read the posting rules at the top of the board.

renting means that you are keeping the rights to some of your pts - but acting as a landlord and renting out the reservation made with those pts to a 3rd party. you are still responsible...the renter still cannot even call MS about the reservation. you can rent to DVC owners and nonowners. you can rent banked or borrowed pts.

transferring means that you are giving up the rights to some of your pts. they are gone and the other DVC owner can do what they want with them. you can only transfer pts to DVC owners. you can only transfer current pts.

you can rent as often as you like (but if you rent more than 20 times in one year, DVC may consider you a commercial renter which would be a bad thing.)

you can transfer one time - either in or out - and then you are done for the year.

You don't rent points. You rent a reservation.

You can transfer points to other DVC owners as long as they are current year points to a current year contract owned by another member.

It's considered bad form to book up spec reservations for hard to get times and rent those. But if you don't need your points, you can offer them to non-members (even members sometimes) to attempt to make reservations for them.

I have 2 reservations at the moment. Part of our party may not be able to go. We gave them the weekend to decide for sure. If they cannot go, would you suggest renting the current reservation or canceling the reservation and putting points up for "rent"? Thanks for the advice!

when is your UY month? if you are within your banking window, then ideally you can cancel the reservation more than 31 days out and use the pts within this use year or the next one.
