Rent/Trade Board Rules

Hi, I hope I am not breaking any rules for asking this question, but if so, please let me know and accept my apologies in advance.

My question is, for the Gold/posting requirement plan, what is the rationale for only allowing reservations that check in within 30 days of the thread submission. I can see wanting to avoid commercial usage of the board, but for the individual casual owner, it's difficult to offload a reservation or points if you can't make a trip and your points will be lost (i.e. can't bank and will expire).

I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand. If the answer is to just pay for the platinum, that is fine, but it could be 20% of the rental.
 
I have to imagine that the risk of commercial usage out ways the benefit of helping a casual owner. It seems to be in place to discourage prospective bookings. The pandemic certainly complicates things this year, but it really does make sense.
 
Points are returned without penalty when a reservation is cancelled 31 days or more in advance. DISboards.com is not meant to be a platform to support "spec" rentals or private businesses. The R/T Board was/is intended to be a " perk" for active members of the Community who may occasionally need to rent or transfer their points. Others pay a fee.

The platinum plan was a recent addition that recognizes the impact of the pandemic. It may be a temporary addition.

@irazabul, as a volunteer R/T mod, I sincerely sympathize with members who find themselves in the situation you described. However, and with respect, the DIS is a private business and not responsible for those situations. Personally, I do not have a problem with the current rules. (If you saw what we R/T mods see, you probably wouldn't either).

I understand. Thanks for the explanation. I'm just trying to plan my points a little better than I have in the past few of years and I appreciate this forum for providing a tremendous benefit for members in terms of information and ability of transfer points.
