Rent/trade board etiquette?

I'm considering renting DVC points for the first time...Before I go and make a fool of myself on the rent/trade board or annoy people by not following the "rules", I wanted to get some advice...When I post about wanting to rent points:

When should I post my request? I'm deciding (with 7-8 other people) whether we want DVC or regular rooms...do I need to be absolutely sure I want DVC before posting on the rent/trade board?

Is there other info I need to give besides # of points I need, dates, and preferences for resort, room type, room view?

If several people respond to me with possible offers, is it ok to engage in conversations with several of them at the same time? Is it generally expected to be first come, first served?

I have never had trouble getting AP and Florida resident discounts for the period between T-day and Christmas...in another thread, one person said this period is one of the busiest DVC times and that I should make rental arrangements ASAP and that maybe many or all of the GVs are already gone for those dates...your thoughts? Is this only for GVs because there are so few of them, or generally applicable to all resorts?

Why does OKW "cost" so much less than most of the other resorts?

I can answer some of your questions. You will not save money renting points to book unless you stay at DVC resorts. The points required for nonDVC would not save you over getting them from Disney.

Yes that is a very busy time for DVC and even the studios, one and two bedrooms may already be full at the Boardwalk and Beach Villas and Wilderness Lodge. Most DVC members book at 11 months or 7 months prior.

Views are request only, no need to post that. After you get a reservation you can request a view. Unless you are interested in the Boardwalk then you can book a view.

I don't rent our points so someone else will have to help you with the fine points of what to ask for.

As to OKW it is fewer points because it was the first DVC resort and the points were set then and can't be changed. As they added more resorts the points changed.
