HI! I've rented points before to stay at WDW and I'm wondering if DVC members are also able to rent points for cruises? If so, how much does it cost? Any info is appreciated!
Thanks!
Christina
Yes, members can reserve a Disney cruise using points ... HOWEVER ... it's very likely that you can reserve directly thru the DCL for less and have a lot more flexibility and security regarding deposit and cancellation.
Be sure to do your homework and know what costs would be involved reserving thru DCL before looking for anything for rent thru a member.
I'd also doubt that a DVC owner would rent points for a cruise. It seems like the ultimate high-risk, low-return adventure to me. It would cost a ton of points, and if your plans changed, the DVC owner would be left with a large number of points which could not be used at a DVC resort.
You're far better off financially just paying cash. DVC rentals are a great way to save money on a WDW visit, but not a cruise. Many, many DVC owners rent points out in order to raise cash for cruises because we get so much better value that way.
Yes, I think that it makes better sense for us to rent out any points that we're not using for WDW visits to pay for part of the cruise. It depends on the situation of each DVC member. It may be more convenient for them to use up a large number of their points for a cruise, and have someone like yourself interested in their reservation, rather than try and rent them out on the disboards. -- I'm assuming that it's possible for a DVC member to book a cruise for another person.
