Not sure whether we will rent a car or use Disney Transportation. If we decided to rent does anyone know roughly the cost for 7 days. Or is it better to save the money and use the Disney Transportation. Thanks!

we rent a car everytime we go its so cheap do it on line a budget or thrifty we usualy pay around $100 to $120 canadian we have paid as little as $41 yes $41 if you get your own insurance to your policy its $17 for the year ,you can go get your groceries at the target super center or the walmart super center ,you can go where ever you want shopping at the prime outlet mall is great its 10 minites from downtown disney

It depends on what time of year you will be travelling.

Most times I do rent a car, check out mousesavers for discount codes.

The one year we went down at Christmas, NO WAY! But I did rent a car for the day to get our shopping fix in! Picked it up at the Dolphin and away we went.

Last Labour day, I rented at the Care Car Centre after we got off our cruise and used that for shopping and then going back to the Airport!

Even though I rent a vehicle, I still use Disney Transportation whilst on Site! :thumbsup2

when you rent a car for the day... do you need much planning meaning reserve x numbers of days beforehand?? and how about cost ??

We drive down so no need to rent but once we arrive at teh resort and check in unless we are going off property to go shopping the car never moves from it's paring spot. We use Dsieny transportation for everything it is very easy to use and very efficient.

I thinks it depends on what your plans are? When we went we did not rent a car, and tooks Mears bus for Universal. Everyday we went to Disney parks I would have either fiound it a hassle finding my way around, or been mad I was paying for a car I was not using. When I think about how often we were actually at the resort, versus the cost of the room I am not sure that was good value either. We did get the Limo service to and from the airport, and this time we will use ME.

No car for us again.

I woudl use Magical Express and rent a car if needed for a few days from Alamo on site at Disney. It is usally cheaper than renting a car and not using it for a few days. Plus there are Airport charges to rent at the Airport.

We usually do this and rent thru Costo.com

It depends on what time of year. At Christmas and NY, YES! Without a ressie, there is no way.

I usually pick a date in the middle of the week or near the beginning depending on whether I want to go grocery shopping too!

I book online before we leave, usually as soon as I book. It's painless, but now I think I read somewhere that they are charging an extra $20.00 to rent at the CCC or the Dolphin. :confused3

It's great, 'cause you do your shopping drop everything off and then return the car.

Cost, depends on what type of car. I always go back to see if there are any deals that come up or whether the cost has gone down.

I rented a mid size car for 10 days last July for $170 US all taxes and fees included and I picked it up at the airport. We knew we wanted to go to the grocery store as well as do some shopping. Plus, it's faster to drive to the parks than wait for the bus. The only exception to that is trying to leave MK late at night--in this case the bus is faster. Having a care also allows you to go off site for meals. We were part of a large group and there were people that paid $50 round trip for a taxi to the grocery store and there were also people that spent double the amount of money on meals because they only ate on site. I figure that what I saved on food alone paid for the car.

Not sure of cost if you need a small vehicle maybe 125. usd. I would rather not go then use disney tranportation and I kid you not. I dislike it that much.

We always rent a car. The freedom is awesome, we grocery shop, visit outside shops and restaurants. S

DH and I always take the transportation Disney provides and we used to take Mears from the airport, last time we used DME. We dont mind not having a car and know that if we really need to get a car that we can get National to come and pick us up and rent one for the day if needed.

We used to be a total "Disney transportation" family...no rental car at all, just the shuttle or towncar from the airport. This latest trip however, we had to rent a car as we were meeting up with other family and going to Daytona beach for a few days.

I actually really enjoyed the freedom of having a car! I shopped around using the codes and coupons listed with Mousesavers and we got a mid-size SUV for $108 for 6 days. We ended up with a Chevy Uplander from Alamo at the airport. We stopped at McDonalds on the way to the resort because we were starving, shopped at Walmart and went to the Disney Premiere store (could have spent a lot of money there if DS had been more patient) and really enjoyed the ease of eating at resort restaurants without the bus transfers.

We still did use the bus to MK one night because we were staying till close and I had read a tip on the boards here that trying to get to your car at closing is much longer because you have the monorail wait and ride to get back to the parking lot. We had to wait for 2 busses but I'm still sure it was a shorter wait, plus my ds loves riding on "mickey's bus".

Next time we will probably rent again if we can get a good deal. My co-worker though went around the same time as us (early May) and did Magical Express and loved it too. Depending on the trip timing and needs, I also enjoyed doing the towncar rental too with the free grocery stop. We used Tiffany towncar but that was back in 2004. They were great then, but I have heard they might have gone a bit downhill since.

FWIW!
