My wife and I are planning to 'buy in' to DVC, and are hoping to go down in October to check it out. I thought it would be nice to stay in a DVC room, and 'experience' it, firsthand. I know I can rent points, but I also see lists on the board for "reservation wanted" -- is that an easier way to do it? :confused3

How would you recommend I go about getting a room reserved?

Points are of no use to a non-member. What you want is a member to make a reservation for you using their points. You pay them for the lodging. So you don't purchase points, you purchase a reservation made with the points.

For this October, you'll need a member with a reservation that they are not going to use, since most all the villas are booked solid for October. It's Food and Wine, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, Golf Tournament.

I called 2 days ago for October and the only thing available for consecutive nights was Saratoga Springs, so that is your best bet. That availability was for a 2 bedroom. If you need smaller, I'm not sure about that - I believe studios are completely gone.

If you don't want Saratoga or need a studio, right now the best thing to do would be watch on the Rent/Trade boards for a "Reservation for Rent". That's NOT "points for rent" because just about everything is sold out for October and if the reservation is not in place, points won't get a non-available ressie.

The FAQs on the Rent/Trade board will give you lots of great info about renting.

Where you see "Points For Rent" or "Reservation For Rent", that's a member offering to 'rent' your their points (i.e., make a reservation for you), or to sell you an existing reservation that they can't use.

Where you see "Reservation Wanted", that's someone (like you) who's looking for a member who wants to rent points (i.e, make a reservation).

If you can't find any availability in October, would you be willing to try late September? I called MS for 9/24 -9/27 ressies yesterday, and was able to get a studio at SSR.

Good luck! :wave2:
