Help!!! My DH and I were taking my parents and his parents to POFQ for a week in Oct. His parents have never been to WDW, mine haven't since the 80's. Before we made our ressies we got the bad news that POFQ would not be open during our planned stay. So we started thinking. Our Fed Ex guy where I work owns DVC at OKW...he loves it. Maybe we could stay there, renting points. But, we wanted to stay Sunday through Friday, leaving saturday morning. Do not want to pay double rate for friday night. So maybe we arrive early, stay the first night ( a saturday, not sunday since we arrived a day early) at ASMu, then move to OKW. DH thinks his parents would not want to move from 1 resort to another. Can a person get OKW at AP rate, then we could use that for our friday or saturday rate, instead of paying double? Or do we just stay at POR, AP rate, which I have never stayed at, and forget the hassle.
We love POFQ because of it's size. We stayed at CBR and, even though it was beautiful, we would rather stay at a smaller resort. Those long walks to OPR at the end of the day to and from Jamaica to fill our mugs was just too much. We also like the atmosphere and the boat ride to DD from POFQ. I know both POR and OKW have the same boat ride.
Our other thought is to just stay at WDW sunday through thursday, leave friday morning and go to St. Augustine, His parents have never seen the Atlantic.

Yep, I've been sent into a tizzy by this POFQ rehab. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also, DH parents do not want to spend much more than $100 per night, so it has to be either DVC at OKW or AP rate at a moderate, unless of course I get another one of those wonderful postcards with the dates I actually need on it.

Thank you to everyone who reads and responds and puts these wonderful forums together. I have saved sooo much money over my 8 trips to WDW because of these.

Where in IL are you from?? If I had to guess I'd say the guy from FedEx is my uncle LOL He talks it up like you've never seen!

I would say just rent the pts....it will still be cheaper with the Friday night....if you take the average cost per night you will see. It is a great resort!

You can use an AP or Code rate for weekends to extend your OKW reservation. They may tell you they can't guarantee that you will keep the same room, but chances are very high you will, especially since alot of DVC members checkout on Friday morning and occupancy is usually low on the weekends.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner... out of town for a few days.

We are from the Quad City area, ever heard of it? Is our DVC, I mean FedEx guy your uncle???
Lori

Yes, I sent him this post and he didn't know if it was you. I was cracking up...there are too many coincidences here! He said your name was Lori (and your sig says it), from IL, Fed Ex guy that loves OKW (HELLO! totally him) and looking for October which he said you were.

That's him...Greg right? LOL!

I wouldn't count on an AP rate, sorry. Right now there are none through the summer, and DVC resorts are not always included in the AP discounts. Even if they are, they may not be available until shortly before your trip. Staying the first night at a different resort isn't too bad if you don't really unpack and settle in. We put things for one night on the top of our suitcases. Staying at a 1 BR at OKW is so relaxing, your in-laws would love it. Diana

Will you have your car? OKW is great for older people if you have a car. The buildings are set up so that every room has parking right out front (balconies and "views" to the back). This is great for older travelers. We have DVC and own at Beach Club, but my parents love OKW because the van is right out front for them. Every step saved makes it easier on my Mom.

I can't imagine you wouldn't enjoy OKW. It has a magical sense of "calm" and it is certainly easier to share "family togetherness" in a big room! The views are beautiful and the whole place is very tropical. There are a lot of older people who stay here repeatedly because of the convenience. The place is like a wonderful little world of it's own!

I thought POFQ was closed for a long time - maybe your October ressie won't end up being at POFQ?

Thanks
Jason

It looks like Lori has not made reservations so she won't be transferred by WDW. It sounds like you would need a two bedroom at OKW. (I gather there are 6 people and probably all of them want beds!) The one bedroom has a king bed and a sofa bed. The two bedroom has a King bed and two queens in addition to the sofa bed. That can be hard to get on AP and would still be fairly expensive.

OKW is very spread out and I am not sure it has a refillable mug program (it seems to come and go!) I love it there, but I always have a car.

snyderla - We did the rent/AP thing at OKW last year for our early Nov. trip. I rented points from a DVC member for Sun - Thursday. Then I added on Saturday night at an AP rate and had CRO link the two reservations together through a cross-reference of confirmation numbers. It worked out great. We were able to stay in the same villa for the entire vacation. It saved us a bunch of $ too doing the point renting and AP code. OKW is really nice, very laid back, very spacious rooms, beautiful landscaping etc. :)

Of course it was soooo nice and we loved having a villa while at WDW we bought DVC! So beware the DVC bug might bite! :)

Yep, Greg. That's him. He says you rent DVC points and might be able to help me find a good candidate to rent from, also told me to try this board, DVC forum. I'm going to PM you.

That's really wild...The internet really makes this small world even smaller.

Lori:)
