Rent a Disney stroller vs. use your own stroller Update pg 2 posts #29 & #30

Rent Disney's strollers vs. using your own stroller

  • Use your own strollers in the parks

  • Rent Disney's strollers in the parks

  • Use your own wagon to pull the little ones

  • Other option (please give details - I'm curious!)

We never even considered renting one for DS2. At the resort and DD we knew we would want ours. Plus I don't think DS would like riding in a different one.

I've done both. When DD5 and I went on girls only trip, I took our stroller from home. When both kids went last summer we did the length of stay double rental. This summer it is my DS6 and I going and I am not sure which route yet. I will have a stroller, just do not know if I'll rent our bring ours. I am leaning on bringing my own to save $$.

I've seen "length of stay" mentioned twice in this thread can someone fill me in on this. I have a DS3.5 and a DD6 and we planned on renting a stroller, but I thought I would have to do this daily.

Rent. My kids are a year apart and I've never owned a double stroller and don't want to. At home we used a wagon. We love the rentals, they are easy to push, the kids get in and out of them by themselves, they are big enough for both the six and seven year old this last trip. Plus, there is no concern about them getting stolen or ruined by the plane, I don't need a stroller at home I wouldn't use hanging in the garage taking up space.

Not sure if you will have access to a car while in Disney, but if you do... you can purchase 2 very inexpensive umbrella strollers at either Wal-mart/K-mart or Target. It works out cheaper than renting from Disney. Then when you are finished using & before heading out to the Airport, find out where the Give Kids the World village is & donate them there (or even the closest Ronald McDonald House). This way families coming thru that program will have one less thing to worry about when they get there. Also a note on your Disney soaps & shampoos.. If you do no use them, donate them to a local Ronald McDonald House. They are always in need of those type of things...

as far as the wagon thing goes, to be honest... I have never seen anyone pulling thier children in a wagon at Disney.. How would you get on the bus with that?? You cannot fold one of them up as you can a stroller.

Wow, my thread from almost a month ago (March 18) has been brought back to life. :rolleyes1

Getting a wagon on a bus is not an issue for us because we stay off site and use our own car. We use our Radio Flyer Pathfinder wagon quite a bit because the seats face each other (cheapest stroller I've found with that capability is $400 on clearance). We now have a Graco DuoRider (side by side) that just came in the other day.

We are bringing our Graco Duoglider for our kids DDjust turned 4 and DS almost 2. We use this stroller everywhere, long walks, in the mall, all the time. After all the talk about Maclarens I thought maybe I should switch brands, but I guess I don't get the hype. I figure if I haven't had probs with the stroller we have, why switch? We have tons of storage underneath, a cup holder and a covered container at the top next to the cup holder. Now my only problem is distinguishing ours from all the other navy blue stroller handles I'm sure we will see next week!

My daughter brought her kids across the country to visit us with two wonderful, but pricey, stroller-carseat combinations. When we took the grandkids to Disneyworld from here we didn't want to take those strollers into the park, so I picked up two $20 strollers last month from Walmart. These are incredible - I can't believe they could sell them for $20. They maneuvered easily, were lightweight and folded easily, had padded handles, sun-screens, reclined, and even had baskets underneath the seats and a service-able cup holder each. I can't remember the name of them, but they are worth hunting down. I'd buy them again in a second.

Thanks for all the advice and votes everyone! Based on the poll results, which are overwhelmingly for taking our own stroller, we will be taking our Graco strollers with us on the trip. I will under no circumstances be renting a WDW parks stroller for the kiddos.

I've changed my mind yet again. I'm thinking this is the "stroller" we will use. :lmao:

Wagons are not allowed in Disney parks.

I would say to bring your own stroller. If you're worried about the rain, then purchase a rain cover. If you're really worried, then buy two cheap-o Kohlcraft umbrella strollers from Toys-R-Us for the same price as 3 days rental.

Hi - I am too 'stroller obsessed' so I read this thread. I know one poster mentioned it but I thought it was worth reiterating - wagons (or anything you pull behind you) are NOT ALLOWED in the parks at WDW. I just didn't want anyone reading this post and getting all the way to the gate expecting to bring in their wagon and then being turned away. That would throw a wrench in your plans.

We rented last Sept and this year are returning in Sept - but bringing a Graco side-by-side for our 4 and almost 3 year old. Renting was great for some things - didn't have to worry about dragging a stroller on the buses, etc. - but for the $18 a day double cost, we opted to bring this year. By the way - the question about LENGTH OF STAY rental. IF you are renting in the parks - I highly recommend it. How it works is this - on your first day renting- you stand in the rental line but tell them when you get up to pay that you want a length of stay rental for X days (total number of days you know you'll rent in the parks) - you pay UPFRONT for all days, with a discount (used to be 10%, not sure now). Then, every other day you skip the line to pay and simply go to the area where they hand out the strollers. We found it useful to save the extra $ and that it was a lot quicker to get it and get going when we first got into the parks.

One other note - just make sure not to use your underneath basket as a 'catch all' or if you're going to do that - bring a bag to easily throw everything into when you have to collapse your stroller to get onto WDW railroad, parking lot shuttles OR WDW buses.

I personally don't like the having 2 separate strollers idea, doesn't work well for us. DH and I like to do kid swap and do a couple adult rides during the day one at a time, a good time to do this is when the kids are asleep but it's nice to have the ability on your own to walk around and window shop while DH is on Space Mtn. If they're in separate strollers - it's too tough to maneuver 2 strollers. Just my opinion...

Anyone have pics of the strollers?

Just curious how much room they have in them for child and other stuff.

DD5 hasn't used a stroller in almost 3 yrs but never walked as you must for DW.

I second PrincessNED's request, if anyone has pictures I would appreciate the post. :thumbsup2

My family brought our stroller until it became a hassle at the airport. So we get the length of stay when at WDW.

Are you asking about the strollers available for rent at WDW? If so:

your girls are adorable.. I love the pic :thumbsup2

My youngest 2 will be 23 and 11 months on out trip. I am bringing our graco Duo Glider. I just need to buy a rain cover for it.

Nobody has mentioned the Kohlcraft double umbrellas yet, so I'll chime in. You can get them at Toys'R'Us and some Walmarts. They run around $70 and fold up almost as small as a single umbrella. They have sunshades on top and large storage compartments on top and back. Easy to get on and off buses and airplanes, etc. We loved it for our two kids who were nearly three and four on their first trip to Disney! Good luck pushing them around in whatever you use!

I loved having my own stroller - especially since never failed every night on bus back to Pop Century - 2 year old fell asleep -- great to have hubby just step off bus - open stroller and in he went. Didn't have to carry him all the back to room, not to mention I did Gate check at airport-- Kept him right in his carriage up to the time we boarded the plan. Of course the we saved money on rental daily also!
