Rent a center

Has anyone used rentacenter? How is the pricing?

Hubby used to work at a couple rent to owns. Unless you need to rent something short term(ex. extra fridge or sofa sleeper during the holidays) or need something pronto that you don't have the money for you'd be better off buying from Walmart or other chain. By the time you pay off the item you have paid nearly quadruple the price at cost. Even if you buy something and pay it off immediately it will still cost more because their cost for the item is higher than other retail places. However, if the item breaks or stops working they legally have to fix/replace the item. Hope that helps!

Yes, but the interest they charge you is outrageous. The consumer reporter in our area says to go buy a couch somewhere else, but then throw 10x as much money as what you paid for that couch in the trash. That is what you would pay at Rent a Center.

I think they are GREAT for a very short term rental, but I'd never ever ever do it for more than a month, if that.

I've used them twice for quickie laptop rentals, and wouldn't hesitate to do the same for anything else. But that would just be until payday.

I had friends a while back who really got in over their heads with the renta center type places. They practically furnished their house with the stuff and ended up losing most of it because the payments were so high.

My friend used them several times.
She says they have a ninety days same as cash thing.
If you pay of the cost of the merchandise in less then 90 days you only pay the retail price. .

She has also bought furniture from them outright and paid less then she would have at walmart or other chain

The first time she used them was a dire emergency. Her fridge gave out and she only had $60 to her name until payday. She like me does not use or have CCs.
She said she never even thought to use them until that moment. Since then she has purchased all of her appliances and living room furniture from them.
