thinking of renting a car from the yacht club to go to the grocery store. would be about $40 for the day. would a cab be cheaper? have never done this before so asking to see if anyone has done either...and which they thought was easier or more economical. thanks!

I think you have a couple of options that may be easier and at least comparable.

First, look into grocery delivery from gardengrocer.com (or similar) as they deliver right to bell services the day you check in. We've used them many times with nothing but positive experiences.

Two, will you be taking DME? If you're not using DME and you're using a hired provider (limo, town car, etc) you should be able to make a 15-30 minute stop at a grocery store on your way from the airport.

Three, if you do need to make a grocery run, it does seem to be cheaper to cab and leave from dtd, mostly because of the location. If you do take a cab, remember you need to pay the waiting time at the grocery store plus the full fare back to yacht club.

We used WEGO which is a grocery shopping service in December. Excellent service and I selected the grocery store I wanted them to shop at. This was important to me because I wanted deli meats ut to order.

I second Wegoshop. Excellent service right to your resort. We got all of our groceries for a week for our villa. Service charge and tip were around 30$ for a 150$ order. This helped especially getting in late to our resort about 10:30

What groceries do you want to purchase? As PP have indicated LOTS of options that do not take away from vacation time

i have heard mixed things about using a grocery delivery service. are they really reliable? and do we pick the time for it to be delivered or do they? and it looks like garden grocer and wego are the two to use. what's the difference? also, it looks like it's safe to say that renting a car to go to the store is pretty much a waste of time :) thanks everyone!!!

just a few grocery staples: bread, lunchmeat, milk, water, etc. given this won't be an enormous order and we weren't planning to rent a car other than to do this grocery shopping, would using the online service still be worth it? i think there is a minimum? thanks so much everyone! this helps!!

You can buy that kind of stuff in the store within the resort. They have cereal, juice, wine, eggs, bacon, etc. Price would be higher than going to the store, but I think this might be your best option.

thanks, but actually we are looking for a case of water, gallon of milk, a bunch of yogurt, a loaf or 2 of bread...things that I don't want to be purchasing in the store 2 times a day. I would rather pay $4 for a loaf of bread once, than $4 for a sandwich every day. was kinda trying to figure out originally if it would be cheaper than $40 to take a cab to the grocery store.

Another thing to consider is your fridge size at YC. On our last visit, I bought a half gallon of milk and some water at the gift shop and the fridge had a hard time keeping it all cold. They are small units, and ours could have been on the fritz, but I wouldn't plan on stocking it full of items that could easily spoil. Might be easier to buy as you go at the gift shop.
